I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education at California State University, Northridge in December of 2010 where I studied violin with Michael Ferril a graduate from Julliard who has played on countless Hollywood films. I believe learning music should be fun and inspiring but I am also serious about teaching and my students. As long as the student practices on a regular basis I will help guide and teach the student and give them the tools necessary to be an amazing performer.
I definitely focus on learning to read music, scales, etudes, standard repertoire, and of course whatever fun pieces of music may interest the student. I have two student recitals per year giving the students opportunities to showcase their talent and see their progress.
Worked full time to found the middle school's first music program, as budget cuts come and go, the school now has music part time.

Ashlie is one of those rare excellent teachers that truly loves what she does and can impart that onto her students. We had our 9 year old daughter going to Ashlie for 6 months to try and see if our daughter would like violin. Unfortunately that did not work out, but not at all because of Ashlie. Honestly, if I wanted to learn how to take the Violin, I would take lessons from Ashlie because she is one of the best teachers out there.+ Read More

Ashlie has been teaching my twin girls the violin for over a year. She is very kind and patient and has a way of getting through to my children. Ashlie is no pushover which I really like since my girls will look for ways to waste time but the lessons are always well controlled. The girls have learned so much from her and I hope to continue with Ashlie for as long as we can!+ Read More
A very good instructor, being that she had to contend with an adult learner that also did not read music, she was very understanding. She works her teachings around you not the other way around, so you can move at your own pace and ability and not feel like you are not improving. So I recommend her to any of you who are older, and would like to take up the Violin.+ Read More
I've had many different music teachers over the years for various instruments but none of them have been as helpful and encouraging as Ashlie.
Ashlie's enthusiasm and love for music shines through every lesson. I would strongly recommend her to everyone!
First time music student
Learning to play the violin had always been the top item on my bucket list. I am very excited that I have been able begin this journey under a patient, understanding and experienced teacher such as Ashlie. Being a first time student to anything arts or music related I had some reservations, however all fear or hesitancy has been easily cast aside under Ashlie's tutelage.
Ashlie is a very calm and encouraging instructor who is able to implement a multitude of teaching techniques in order to help you progress in your lessons. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can express, in order to better encapsulate the degree of confidence and admiration I hold for her and her abilities, is that I am also going to start bringing my 7 year old niece for lessons and begin her journey with the violin.
I believe Ashlie's personality is perfect for teaching students of all ages. I look forward to continuing my musical practice under her guidance and to sharing this overall experience with my niece.
I had taken some violin lessons 11 years prior to studying with my new teacher. She was able to access my level and appropriately chose pieces and exercises that where challenging but not overwhelming. Her instruction was clear and concise and I am pleased with my own progress and hope would recommend her to anyone who is apprehensive about finding a teacher. She is great!
Recommendation for Ashlie
Ashlie was my student teacher during her last semester at CSUN. She is very bright, talented, articulate and friendly. She's strives teach her students how to be excellent musicians. When someone is struggling, she uses creative learning techniques to help them be successful.
It was a pleasure working the Ashlie and my students really enjoyed her presence in the classroom. Even though she's a violinist, she worked well with my woodwind, brass and percussion students in beginning band and senior band. She would go above and beyond what was required of her by staying during lunch on many days to help individual students. Ashlie volunteered to play the solo violin part for "Bashana Habana" at our Spring Concert. She also helped me prepare and take 100 students to the High Note Music Festival last spring. Ashlie handled her job in a professional manner by being punctual, dependable, well dressed.
I highly recommend Ashlie as a music teacher.
Ashlie is the best! I am new to the violin and have no musical background. Ashlie is so patient, very thorough and encouraging. I am so glad to have chosen her for my instruction and look forward to many lessons with her. I highly recommend Ashlie Neilson!
I truly enjoyed my violin sessions with Ashlie, she is the best, I can't wait to start again.
Ashlie has been teaching my 6 year old daughter for about 5 months now and I'm very happy with the results. My daughter is not the easiest student, she can be stubborn and quickly lose her concentration. Ashlie deals with this by staying one step ahead of her and keeping the lesson interesting. Every week, my daughter is very excited to go to her violin lesson. That's a great review in itself!
Patient, kind, talented. What more could you ask for?
After not touching a violin for nearly 10 years, I decided that it was time for me to learn how to play once again. Choosing Ashlie as my instructor was the best thing I could have done. Not only is Ashlie a fantastic instructor, but she's extremely sweet, patient, and kind. Her instructions were always clear and it truly seemed as if she enjoyed teaching me as much as I enjoyed playing. Ashlie was able to set a pace that allowed me to improve at a good rate while still progressing comfortably. She made sure I had a good grasp on the fundamentals and would quickly fix anything I may have been doing wrong.
Ashlie is a fantastic teacher, and she is somebody I would highly recommend to anybody.
Great Violin Teacher
Ashlie has been teaching our 8-year-old son Julian for the last nine months and his violin playing is easy on the ears in this short period of time. Not only does she know her art and has great teaching skills she is extremely patient. Ashlie is able to keep our son on task and interested in learning and in return he wants to please her.

Ashlei is a great teacher
Ashlei has been teaching my daugher, age 9 for about 2 year. During this time, I have seen an amazing growth in my daughter's self confidence, work ethic, and passion for music. I can attribute all of this to Ashlei's careful and patient instruction in teaching my daughter violin. Ashlei has a great balance in teaching my daughter the discipline in learning an instrument, while making it fun. She is able to take music theory and break it down to a level that's easy to understand. This is absolutely crucial in learning any instrument and minimizing the fustration that can occur in the early stages. As a teacher Ashlei is very perceptive in understanding what level the student is at and teaching with emphasis on mastering the basics. Thanks to Ashlei, my daughter is still playing violin and continuing to do well.
Ashlie is Great!
Not only is she sweet, patient, and very musically knowledgeable, but she knows how to cater to one's particular learning style as well. While she makes sure the lessons move at a good pace, she is careful that it's not at the expense of previous skills learned. Above all, Ashlie's friendly disposition puts one at ease and makes learning to play the violin lots of fun. Thank you Ashlie!
Ashlie is an amazing teacher. She is very patient and quick to find where I am messing up. I just hope I can put in the practice so that next time I see her we can move on to more advanced stuff.
My daughter Brittany has been taking violin lessons with Ashley for over a year now and she loves it. Ashley is very patient and works very well with kids. She is upbeat and fun. Not your typical music instructor- she is AWSOME!!!
