I am a flexible, kind teacher who bases lessons on what the student wants to learn. Learning needs to be fun and I do my best to make it that way. I won't only teach but I will also give the reason behind why I'm teaching it. Most of all, I care about people and how my students are doing. I am a recent graduate from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington. I earned my degree in Contemporary Music Industry and studied music theory, composition, and recording techniques for 4 years while at the school. I have played guitar for over 10 years and have taught guitar for the last 5 years.
*** Lesson Details ***
I am a pretty laid back person and am negotiable on what curriculum and books to use.
A typical lesson for me goes like this:
Warm-up song (something they are familiar with and will help them build confidence)
Work through 1-2 pages of a guitar book
Practice/Learn a song that they're interested in
Practice Scales/notes/chords (outside of the book)
End with a song they like and are working on
I've used several different books in prior teaching experience and adapt to them all. After 3-6 months I would like a student to have a good understanding of sight-reading music, techniques in their specific field and learning basic chords. I'm patient, which helps with younger students, and try to center lessons around what I think each individual student would enjoy.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring my instrument and books. I prefer that the student have their own instrument and books but if they don't, we can make it work.
*** Specialties ***
I think that learning to read music is important and that is generally what I teach first, no matter what I'm teaching. I have taught and tutored in guitar and music theory. I have studied in music recording and songwriting and am interested in teaching those as well.
