I am a professional composer, bassist, producer, and educator. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors of Music in Composition. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a Master of Arts in Composition and am currently finishing my Ph.D. also from UC Berkeley. Bass students can expect to improve week to week learning a variety of styles including funk, jazz, pop, latin, rock, music theater. As bassists, it is important for us to have a firm foundation in music theory, rhythm, and technique. My teaching emphasizes creativity and improvisation. I have been a professional bassist (both upright bass and electric) for over 10 years specializing in jazz and contemporary music. I teach beginner and intermediate piano students of all ages. I studied piano for 8 years in a variety of styles (pop, jazz, classical, etc.) I have taught piano at the university level for the past five years. Lessons are tailored to the students' unique interests and goals. My teaching style emphasizes improvisation and creativity and I try to incorporate the students’ creativity into our lessons, eventually helping them compose some of their own works. I have been a composer and producer for over 10 years writing for professional ensembles all over the world. Whether you want to write your own songs, produce electronic music, or write a symphony, I can help you achieve your goals. I will help you with everything from music theory, orchestration, notation, and ear training. I also teach music production including recording techniques, recording software (Ableton, Pro Tools), and electronic music. I have taught composition, theory, and production to hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to professionally release their own music.
