Learn how to play oboe at any age and skill level!

Do you want to learn how to play oboe? Oboe is a rare instrument among the pack, but it is extremely rewarding to play. The sound is very similar to the voice and allows you to express yourself to the fullest potential. Oboe is probably given the most solos of any instrument across the spectrum. Its sound is very similar to singing, and composers tend to use it for lyrical and beautiful solos. Among the woodwind family, it is the one of the most expressive and also versatile for use in band and orchestra. My lessons are relaxed and methodical throughout to ease stress and allow you to feel comfortable during the session. I will offer encouragement and praise, and over time guide you toward correct technique and execution of the music. You don't need to get it right on the first try! We'll also get into concepts like warming up properly, active listening, breath support, phrasing and style, as well as working through etudes and studies to improve technique. I think music should be fun and rewarding, and I will offer encouragement every step of the way to help you become a better player and musician.

Hello! My name is Andrew and I am here to introduce you to the wonderful world of music and playing the oboe! I grew up playing oboe and immediately fell in love with its sound and its expressive qualities. I had teachers that encouraged me to explore my own sound quality, listen to recordings, and master the technical aspects of playing. My teachers encouraged me to understand the inner workings of music, like the natural contour of phrases, and taught me how to soar above the orchestra and also how to blend with other instruments. Finally, I have developed my own techniques, methods, warm-ups, and exercises to master the oboe and the art of music. With a bit of effort and practice, I can teach you how to perform music the same way with passion and purpose, perform authentically in a variety of styles, and teach you fundamental ideas that can be used to propel you forward in your musical career. I look forward to working with you.
