Levels taught:
Beginner, Intermediate
In starting guitar, students will be first shown basic fundamentals of guitar such as how to properly tune their instrument with a tuner so they will always be able to hear their guitar correctly. Learning simple melodies of songs for the average beginner guitarist serves itself to be the first useful method of great fretboard familiarity and to acquire dexterity. Basic beginner chords are then taught to learn to play a few of their favorite songs in a simple format as well as basic power chords that are most commonly used in rock songs. As the student progresses to an intermediate level, songs that more closely relate to the students' original goals will be incorporated into lessons and the students' home practice routine (which serves a great purpose in order to develop the skills to attain their musical goals). At this level, students will also become introduced to ear training and learning more complex melodies by ear. At an advanced level, students can expect to learn far more advance material because of the skills they have been able to build through lessons and good practice. Students inevitably begin to grow more self sufficient in learning songs that they are motivated to learn whether by ear, tablature, or notation and are usually able to transcribe music on their own. Students who keep up the above mentioned practices and utilization of the above mentioned resources will have found by this point that they have indeed reached their musical goals and often further advance their studies on their own. Some resources I like to incorporate Into lessons are often downloadable apps such as "Amazing Slow Downer", "Spotify", "YouTube", and "Tabs" to name a few. Students should ideally be ready for lessons with their guitar, a guitar pick, and guitar tuner.

About Andre L.

My name is Andre, I currently reside in Asheville, NC, and I pride myself in being the best teacher to all of my students because I want to have them succeed in all they do! I'm a goal oriented, passionate, and motivated individual who also thoroughly believes learning music should be fun and easy! I received a bachelors degree in music education in 2011 which has helped me be able to facilitate a great career in teaching as well as performing. I have been able to travel the world performing for a variety of artists and bands to the help of my long prior performance background of 20+ years. Being able to perform to large crowds and travel around the world and teach are my favorite ways in being able to share the gift of music. I help my students to find self-motivation so that they will be able to watch themselves grow as musicians. I enjoy helping budding musicians to achieve self-confidence in playing their instrument(s) as well by creating as many musical performance experiences as possible and encouraging them to see live performances.  My goal is to instill the passion, drive, and energy that music has brought into my own life into the lives of others. I want to be a part of my students’ musical journey. I want my students to feel proud of their musical successes and teach them all that I can while constantly reminding them that you can do and achieve anything you put your mind to.  "Success follows doing what YOU WANT to do."

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to have my students in a relaxed learning environment. Music is totally something to have fun with as you learn it.  Students should always be prepared with the necessary tools that are needed for all lessons (i.e. pencil, instrument, lesson book, any material handed out at previous lessons, etc.).

Students can expect to start learning from the minute they walk into their lesson until the very end.

Students should come into lessons with a positive energy!

*** Specialties ***
I can teach many different styles of music ranging from classical, baroque, jazz, big band, contemporary, pop, alternative rock, hard rock, classic rock, electronic dance music, funk, R&B, Soul, Blues, hip-hop and much more! With an array of different learning techniques, we will work together to help you acquire the playing techniques you'll need to learn to play your favorite styles of music.

So far it has been a great experience for my daughter learning the piano with Andre.
Andre is very patient with my 5 years old and I believe she is enjoying the experience based on his patient approach with Noelle.

Andre is very personable, and was able to keep my 8 year old's attention. His method was gentle, and he took the time to explain in detail what he was teaching. He taught her a complete structure in just a few lessons. We really enjoyed the lessons, and would recommend him as a teacher!

Andre is a great instructor. I made progress over a couple of months. I really appreciate more about teach acoustic guitar and have a better sense of how I can create music in my own way such as in my classroom. I feel children learn through music so I am grateful that I got to learn so much from Andre. I hope to be able to take my guitar and play for my preschoolers someday.

He's passionate about what he does and that is portrayed in his instruction and style.

The Suitcase

Andre has been playing with my group for about a year. He is reliable and highly knowledgeable. He is proficient both at his instrument (bass) and with his music theory. He is great to work with and I'm confident that students would learn a lot from him.

Responsible and years ahead

Andre is an advanced and motivated musical entity. I have no doubt that Andre is a legend of our generation. Any aspiring artist who's lucky enough to learn under him will certainly be much better for it.

Get Dre On Bass

Andre Lyles joined forced with ARJUN in the summer of 2012. And it's been such a pleasure working on with him on every level. I always refer to him as "The God Send". Andre's ability to compose and improvise on his instrument in any given moment is far superior than those of the many bass players that I've worked with in the past. And I've worked with some killer bass players. On stage he's fierce, knows how to push and never misses a beat! And then there's just Andre the guy, someone I consider one of my best friends. He's got a whole lot of heart and soul in his playing but also as a human being. I always look forward to our inspirational conversations that help keep us on this path of the musical journey that we're on.

Best Teacher NA

I went to school with Andre and every time I was curious about anything music, he lent me his ear and wisdom. When I took singing lessons, he gave me additional lessons, follow ups, and criticisms to support me. When i wanted to learn piano, he gave me notebook full of several basic and intermediate notes I could use. He even listened to the compositions I made and gave suggestions. He very passionate about music, whether he is listening or playing it. He's always seeking knowledge and willing to share it. He is the perfect example of a teacher because not only can he teach, he willing to explore his profession further to help himself and others.

Awesome!

One of the best teachers/musicians in the Greater New York City Area, hands down. Highly trustworthy, goal-driven, and focused on all his work and each individual he teaches, Andre's abilities are only surpassed by his genuine kindness and concern for his craft. Awesome person, inside and out.

Awesome teacher

This young man is a great teacher! He's very thorough, knows the subject matter very well of what he's teaching, and his aura makes everything about music really interesting to learn. I felt very engaged when I studied with him at all times, and most importantly, I'm a much better player than I was when I initially started taking lessons. Great player, great human being!

The Most Fun Bass Teacher I have ever had

Andre is one of the greatest music instructors I ever had. His lessons are always well organized and he actually really cares about my growth as a musician. He will always take the lesson wherever you want to go with it while implementing his own regimen so I learn what I need to learn while having fun!
