Hello! My name is Allyson and I am a recent graduate of DePaul University. I received a degree in Music Education and am now the General Music teacher at an elementary school. While at DePaul, I also studied piano, which I began playing at the age of four. Growing up, I participated in numerous piano competitions and won first place in the Hartman-Stickley Piano Competition when I was 17. Since then, I have been very passionate about and dedicated to pursuing music. I have been teaching private piano lessons since 2006. I also have experience teaching guitar, dulcimer, and violin, and have participated in teaching workshops for choirs, orchestras and bands. I have performed on piano as a soloist and also in ensembles. Additionally, I sang in DePaul’s choir for the four years I attended. As a teacher, I am very patient, but also encouraging and motivating toward my students. I understand that every student learns music differently, and as a result I tailor each lesson to best fit the needs of that student. Music is a natural part of the human experience, and I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to participate and understand the joy it can bring to one’s life. *** Lesson Details *** I want my students to feel confident and eager to learn more after each lesson. I am very patient but also very motivating. I prompt my students to set goals and then I give them the tools necessary to accomplish them. During each lesson, the student will learn music theory, ear-training, technique and their specific repertoire. Lessons are very organized but I promise they are fun as well! I specialize in classical piano but can also teach other genres for a more well-rounded knowledge of piano repertoire. I love teaching piano and if you are eager to learn, I would be delighted to work with you. *** Travel Equipment *** In different cases, I can provide some copies of sheet music. I expect my students to buy the lesson/theory books necessary. *** Specialties *** I specialize in classical piano but also have a background in jazz and pop music as well.
