Learn Violin with an Experienced Classically Trained Teacher and Electronic Music Producer

In addition to my 15 years of experience, I encourage my students to think critically for themselves so they can learn to be self sufficient in their practice. I prioritize both ear training and music reading so my students fully understand their music. I also encourage them to improvise with their favorite songs so they can train their ears in a way that makes learning personal to them.

I am a classically trained professional violinist, music producer, and dj. I have studied at Interlochen Arts Academy, Miami University, and Berklee College of Music. I use the Suzuki repertoire for beginning students, but I do not teach the Suzuki method strictly, because I feel that though the Suzuki method is excellent for ear training, it often leaves students at a disadvantage when it comes to reading music. I like to supplement my violin lessons with music theory so that students receive a comprehensive understanding of what they are playing. In addition to teaching classical repertoire, I am a full believer in improvisation and I love/ produce electronic music. Having varied interests in my music tastes allows me to teach students who have both classical and unconventional desires to learn violin. I am able to make learning applicable to their needs, so they find it enjoyable to continue learning.

I’ve been taking violin lessons from Alexis for a few years now, both in person and online, and I can not imagine a better person to learn from. She balances discipline, creativity, and flexibility so that I can continue to progress without feeling unmotivated or overwhelmed. Whatever type of music you want to learn or goal to pursue, she will provide the tools for you to do so. Another thing that makes Alexis a great teacher is her ability adapt to the unique needs of her students. I started with many peculiar bad habits and since then every small thing has been address in its own unique way that would help me understand. No issue or piece is ever glossed over and she will work with you until it is fully understood. I can not over state how great of a decision taking lessons from Alexis has been.

Alexis is a fantastic technical teacher. My daughter received feedback from the school orchestra teacher about her strong technical foundation skills and how good her bow hold is, which she learned entirely from Alexis. Alexis easily engaged with a wide variety of musical pieces to ensure my daughter’s interest, and also used music as a platform for imparting life lessons. I highly recommend her as a violin instructor!

After consultation lessons with several industry professionals, it became astoundingly clear that Alexis was the best teacher to guide me through a particularly pivotal period of my music education. I was inspired by her evident passion and technical acuity. I deeply appreciated and valued her honest, insightful, and detailed feedback. She equipped me with indispensable tools, integral to my recent completion of a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, Summa Cum Laude. I'm beyond grateful to have had Alexis' support and guidance in building a loving relationship with the violin.
