I have been teaching singing for 14 years. I specialize in pairing healthy vocal technique with music that engages your personality to bring out your joy in a musically engaging performance. Singers are actors, too! I teach all genres of music, with a vast knowledge of singing in Italian, French, German, and Spanish, in addition to English. If you have an audition, I can help prepare you and your materials, with focus on healthy breathing and vocal production. I want my students to reach their musical potential and aspirations while having a wonderful time!

About Alexandra D.

Welcome! I'm a singer and instrumentalist who performs everything from opera to musical theatre to piano to ukulele. I have performed all around North America and Europe, but, if I had to pick a favorite city to have performed in, I would have to say Bruges, Belgium!

As a teacher, I have taught privately and in the classroom for the past 17 years. I have taught for the University of Southern Maine, the Met Opera Guild Urban Voices as a Master Teaching Artist, for the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Days in the Arts program, for Watertown Children's Theatre, and for the North End Music and Performing Arts Center in Boston, MA where her students have shared the stage with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra.

As a performer, her favorite roles include Anita in "West Side Story", Jo March in "Little Women", and Carmen in "Carmen". As a ukulele player, her current favorite songs to play are the hits of Edith Piaf, Josh Ritter, and anything Disney!

I’ve had my ukulele for over two years, and have done nothing with it. Decided the other day it was time, did a google search and found Alexandra on TakeLessons! I have zero music background but she’s made these lessons SOO simple and effective. I have a long ways to go, yet I leave each lesson with a feeling of accomplishment! Wasn’t expecting this to go so well, 110% satisfied. Thanks Alexander :)

Throughout my classes with Alexandra -- she was kind, insightful, and encouraging. Before my lessons I had no formal training in music, sight-reading, or piano performance. I took the lessons to prepare myself for higher music education at Salem State University, and after the lessons I was able to pass my audition and continue on with the necessary knowledge to grow. Her way of teaching is free of pretentiousness and apathy. She is really an excellent instructor.

Wow - we’ve only done our first lesson, but it was amazing. Alexandra is so positive and really checked in with our daughter to make sure she was teaching her at the right level; not overwhelming, but still challenging enough to really get her hooked. She was very sensitive to, and conscious of, accommodating our daughter’s learning disability. It feels like a great match! Thank you , Alexandra, for a great first lesson. Looking forward to the next one!

I got to learn and practice so much! It's amazing how much you can improve in only an hour. Imagine an hour every week!! So much progress can be made if you apply each and every tool you are given. Knowledge has no power unless you apply it!!! :D

My son is 6.5 yo. Alexandra knows how to effectively teach a little boy who has a hard time sitting still! He has learned so much already with the 7/8 lessons he has had!

Fantastic first lesson, correcting my technique, pronunciation, with an analysis of the score in relation to the composer, stressing the importance of the dynamic....all that in 1h. Willing to repeat!!

Miss Alexandra was such a patient and helpful instructor. She was extremely knowledgeable and went over the basic rudiments of piano. By the end of the lesson was able to execute a few scales and play a few pieces from beginning to end! I hope to take voice lessons from her as well!
