Alex is a Boston-based guitarist and educator. At the age of 17, Alex turned his musical interests from classical violin to bluegrass guitar, and has yet to reconsider. After completing an undergraduate biology degree at Cornell University in 2011, he returned to the vibrant Boston music bluegrass scene, studying privately with Berklee professor John McGann. In 2014, Alex started the folk duo, No Bones About It, which has performed around the northeast, including performances at the Freshgrass Music Festival and Club Passim, as well as completing a country-wide tour of New Zealand. In March 2016, Alex joined the April Verch Band, with whom he tours around the globe.

I had a great experience with Alex. He is very flexible and catered each lesson to my learning style and goals. You can learn music theory, technique, and how to have fun playing music with your instrument. I kept finding that one hour flew by with the amount of music that was being played. I highly recommend to anyone on both sides of the spectrum; someone who knows exactly what they want to achieve and someone who doesn't know where to begin.

I have worked professionally with Alex for several years. He is an inspiring teacher and talented musician. Alex has the technical abilities to teach a wide range of musical genres, and the patience and communication skills to help students learn. If you're looking for a guitar teacher, Alex is your guy!

Alex has been my guitar teacher now for about 9 months and I have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons. He is always enthusiastic with the music we're learning and has a very clear way of explaining new ideas. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a guitar teacher!

Alex is an amazing teacher!!!! I have been studying under him for several years now and he consistently makes tricky concepts really fun and approachable.

Not only does he have a clear method for teaching guitar (I really like the structure) but I can come to him with any song or idea and he either teaches it to me or we work through it together.

With so many guitar teachers in the area, I consider myself lucky for having met such a brilliant guitarist and wonderful teacher. Can't recommend him enough.
