Alexandra Piepenbrink is active as a performer and an educator based in Richfield, Ohio. Alexandra plays both oboe and English horn and works as a free lance musician. Alexandra's resume boasts a wealth of orchestral, band, pit orchestra, chamber ensemble, and church music work. As a sought after educator, Alexandra works for Bocal Majority Bassoon and Oboe Camps, Wooster Music Camp, the Royalton Music Center, and maintains a large private studio. Alexandra is a graduate of The College of Wooster, where she received degrees in both Oboe Performance and Music Education. Alexandra is continuing her studies with Cynthia Warren and looks forward to attending graduate school to continue studying oboe in the future. Piano CurriculumI use the Bastien Piano Books as the main method book in student lessons. I believe these books do a great job covering music theory and musical concepts while also providing students a variety of engaging pieces to learn.I supplement these method books with additional sheet music, workbooks to facilitate music literacy, worksheets to reinforce musical concepts, and frequent "fun" materials to help students stay engaged. Students do study a lot of classical music and work on technical ability, however students also learn from a variety of genres including popular music, movie music, show tunes, etc. Woodwind CurriculumI use the Rubank Books for most Flute, Oboe, and Clarinet students. I like these books because they move at a quick pace, but allow the student to develop good technique through a variety of exercises. Students also work extensively on scales/scale exercises to facilitate development of good technique. Each student is also provided with a major piece of Solo Repertoire that is meant to encourage musical development and focus on several musical concepts the student needs to work on. I often supplement these materials with workbooks/worksheets to reinforce musical concepts and music literacy.
