I am a Colombian-American Multi-Instrumentalist, Composer, and Music Producer currently based in LA. I hold a Music degree from UC San Diego where I studied Jazz piano and composition under the tutelage of 2-time Grammy award-winning producer, Kamau Kenyatta. Being born in Colombia allowed me to develop and eclectic music palate. This has enabled me to collaborate with Folk, R&B, Latin, Jazz, and Tango bands. I have performed, recorded, and arranged music for many ensembles, which has allowed me to hone my craft over the years. Passing on the knowledge that I have accumulated is among the most rewarding things I can think of. Seeing students master techniques and songs brings me a lot of joy. My students range from ages 6 to 72 and I take pride in my ability to adapt to the needs of each one of them, whether that means working on different musical styles or progressing at varying paces. I take this philosophy with me to the different settings where I teach including, 1 on 1 lessons, Middle and High School bands, and Church Praise Bands. Teaching is my passion and I look forward to helping you become a better musician!

Alex is a very talented and caring music teacher. He has taught both of my kids (ages 14 and 11) piano for 3 years and my son has also been taking ukulele lessons with him for the past year and a half. Alex is always well prepared and works hard to create engaging lessons. He is open to giving students choices in songs they want to learn and is great at motivating students to develop their knowledge in music. Alex is extremely patient, kind, and a very inspiring musician. We feel so lucky that he shares his passion and knowledge with us! He is also thoughtful in sending updates and helpful resources for the students when he comes across things that might interest them. Alex is also super responsive and always replies quickly to emails. He has been flexible when we have had to adjust our schedules and always tries to accommodate. My kids are inspired by Alex and look forward to their lessons and I am amazed at how much they have learned!
My 6 year old grandson, Bruce, has been taking virtual lessons from Alex for almost a year. It has been a wonderful experience for Bruce. He knows how to interact with Bruce and often gives encouragement and advice with patience. It's amazing how much Bruce has learned in a short time. Not only Alex is a great teacher, he often takes the opportunity to introduce a special piece of music that ties in with Bruce's current interest. For example, Alex taught Bruce how to play the beginning piece to Hamilton after he found out Bruce had gone to see the play. We were all very surprised how well he played it. This piece of music has a special meaning for Bruce. It's things like this that make learning more fun. Thanks Alex for sharing your love of music with Bruce. This rewarding experience would last a lifetime. I highly recommend Alex to anyone who is interested in learning music.
We began virtual piano lessons with Alex in March 2020, having been in person for 3 years. I feared that my son would lose the engagement of having his instructor at his with tactile corrections. These online sessions were the silver lining of the lockdown in fact! Alex has a knack for challenging our son all the while being patient & encouraging. Our family watched him play & remarked that he seemed to enjoy his piano playing. I have the virtuoso Alex to thank for that.
