AJ Long is an award-winning pianist living in upstate New York. In February 2014, he started studying with Josh Wright via online lessons, as well as live masterclasses in Utah. Since that time, AJ has performed concerts in Utah and New York. He was the recipient of Josh and Lindsey Wright's annual scholarship for young musicians which afforded him the opportunity to travel to Utah for extensive lessons and performance opportunities. He was warmly received at all of the scholarship concerts he presented and received special recognition for the performance of his own compositions. AJ received first prize in 2018 Crane Concerto Competition, 1st prize in the 2016 Rachmaninoff Music Competition hosted by New Russia Cultural Center, and 2nd prize in the 2015 CDCYM Chopin Competition. He is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Piano Performance at the Crane School of Music under Francois Germain.
In addition to performing, Aj is also a passionate piano teacher specializing in classical training. He has successfully taught many students of all ages and levels via his online Skype studio since 2014.
AJ is a wonderful instructor who is never short of extremely thoughtful and helpful insights; I’ve never played for AJ and asked for feedback and found him to have nothing to say. His ideas on musicality and how to treat the music like it’s special are often original but well-informed, and he is particularly gifted at articulating these. Having studied with a variety of extremely successful professional and performing pianists, he offers a great deal of useful technical advice that would surely benefit intermediate-advanced students. AJ also studied piano pedagogy, specializing in teaching younger students the piano, so certainly he is also equipped to teach beginners. AJ was one of my first teachers when I started piano at age 19, and now at 21 I feel I owe much of my progress to him!+ Read More
