I am a NW Pennsylvania native, career Army Officer, and have spent my entire adult life studying, practicing, training, and teaching the martial arts. My passion for martial arts began at the age of six when my late foster-brother Robbie (who had never trained) demonstrated a kick he had seen in a movie and said, “That’s a karate kick.” It was enough to drive this small-town kindergartener to seek out and absorb any form of martial arts I could find – library books, movies, TV shows, magazines, etc. Nine years later, I walked into my first karate class to learn a gritty blend of Goju Ryu, Shotokan, Aikijutsu, and catch wrestling. Since that time I have studied, trained, and practiced numerous martial arts, including my primary system of Chinese Kenpo Karate. I also hold a PhD in Leadership Theory, so my thirst to explore the depths of martial arts history, philosophy, and how they apply to today's world has only grown; now I want to share that experience with you!
