Musician's Institute graduate - Independent Artist Program - 2011 - 2012
I grew up as a mid-western gal living in Madison, Wisconsin where I started taking piano lessons at age 7 and voice lessons at age 13. I have been teaching lessons now for about 6 years and I love it! I am the oldest of 11 children - so, with that being said, I am very good with a wide variety of personality types and ages (I have taught ages 4-40 years old).
I I moved to Hollywood in 2011 to attend Musician's Institute of Contemporary Music and graduated in 2012. At Musician's Institute I studied the arts of piano, voice, songwriting, performing, and recording. Currently, I am playing shows around Hollywood with my guitarist Fernando. We play original songs and covers of artists like The Beatles, CCR, Tracy Chapman, No doubt, Bob Dylan, Gary Jules, Radiohead, Fiona Apple. I specialize in rock, pop, and indie genres but am open to anything.
*** Lesson Details ***
My main goal as a teacher is to make the student feel comfortable. I believe I provide a comfortable atmosphere for my students by befriending them. It is very important for me to keep the communication flowing with my students. And my number one goal is to teach each lesson according to the individual because we all learn best in different ways!
I love playing music, especially when it is a song that I am passionate about! With this being said, I strongly encourage students to pick out songs that they love and to bring them to the lesson. This way students are still learning about note reading, posture, breathing, finger technique, theory, etc, but they are learning it through a medium that they love!
Piano lessons focus on: sight reading, finger technique, posture, theory, songwriting (encouraged)
Vocal lessons focus on: sight reading, breathing technique, posture, theory, expression
