Due to my maternal grandfather's work as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Starting to study classical flute at age 12, then playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and taking professional jazz/classical flute workshops/master classes, I've been teaching and playing all styles of music professionally since my 20's.
Vocal study began at age 15 with some great artists/educators in SF, Seattle, and Europe, including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Adrian West, Davida Kagan, and Roland Wyatt (coach of the Manhattan Transfer/ Voice department director NY Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through many teaching years, I've developed a very successful, uniquely simple 8 part method to help cross cultural individuals and groups sing optimally from their hearts. For all levels from beginners to professional. the necessary basic vocal techniques can be taught effectively in 4 to 8 lessons, though the process of becoming a successful artist continues during one's lifetime.
With a BA in Theater Arts from SFSU, and over 30 years directing, acting, and musical experience, as well as 10 years working successfully as an ESL educator, My experience has allowed me to help any student achieve their personal and professional goals.
Successfully created and taught the first English speaking lesson plan for two Dutch 8th and 9th grade gifted bilingual students.
In the Netherlands I taught classes in pop singing, vocal technique, and flute as well as substitute teacher for private voice and flute lessons in several local community music schools. I also coached all the leads in the best musical theater high school productions, nationally, of Beauty and the Beast and The Newsies.+ Read More

Abby is an excellent teacher. She tried her best to help me understand English by providing me examples, explaining detail, revising grammar, and so on. Besides teaching me English, she shared her own experiences with me. She told me how people can get through difficulties.
She is not only a real teacher in English, but also in life.

She really takes time for her students and because of her musical background she knows about many different styles, from jazz to pop to musical and even classical music. She knows how to use this knowledge well in her classes and loves to teach, which makes her a very inspiring voice teacher. I have played music with Abby for over 30 years. She is enthusiastic about her musical ideas for a performance;she is hard working before and during rehearsals; she enjoys people and interacts with them in a friendly and concerned manner. I have heard some of her music students perform and observe that she has imparted these skills to her students based on the performances I heard. I highly recommend her for any teaching position she aspired to as I believe she would carry these attributes into any teaching situation she encountered.+ Read More
