About Elisabetta

Originally from Rome, Italy, Elisabetta immersed herself in musical and classical studies since an early age. Traveling with her family, she had the opportunity to experience the most prestigious music productions in Europe and the United States. The choice to be an active part of the music world as a professional was inevitable and only natural.
She attained a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance and Music Teaching, from the Conservatory of Music Refice, Italy.
She developed a long career teaching music, providing music education instruction, encompassing practice of an instrument, history of music, and music theory. She taught classes with approximately twenty-five students, maintaining a sharp, consistent focus on correlating music to academics.
Through instrument instruction (piano, recorder, and key board) she was successful i

n developing skills in students such as discipline and concentration. The experience of practicing and producing beautiful music enhanced the self esteem of even the most difficult pupils, improving their achievements also in mathematics, science, language arts and other academic subjects.
While teaching, Elisabetta never stopped performing for various Cultural Associations in Solo Concerts and Chamber Music.
In New York for family and business reasons since 1999, Elisabetta continued her successful teaching career throughout these years, giving lessons to children and adults alike. Some of her students came from the Martha Graham School of Modern Dance, The Neighborhood Playhouse and Opera Singers.

Elizabeta is very pleasant and patient, she puts me at ease. It is a pleasure to be in her company. I'm enjoying my lessons and I am motivated to practice at home.

My daughter adores Elisabetta, and with good reason. Elisabetta is an expert in the fine art of balancing warmth and gentleness with rigorous instruction and an insistence on the importance of technique.

My daughter has been playing piano for several years, and she wants to be treated as a mature tween, not a small child who must be praised for simply getting through a piece. On the other hand, she can also be hypersensitive and react badly to criticism; she will think someone is angry with her on the slightest provocation. In other words, she is a very tough customer! But somehow, miraculously, Elisabetta gets it perfectly right, and my daughter feels respected and encouraged.

I am extremely grateful to have found such a gracious and skilled instructor, and I'm very pleased with the progress my daughter is making.

The student must be self-motivated and consistent about his lessons by, self-motivated, I mean, that if it's a child, he should be learning because he wants to learn (not his parents, etc.} There is no one answer to this question (what can students expect from my lessons) because that would depend on the students interests. Ive
studied clasical. pop. rock, classic rock, jazz and improvisation. If, for example, the student is an adult who is taking lessons because it's something he wanted to do all of his life, he'll pick a song that he likes and we can start working on it right away. If necessary, I'll transpose it to an easier key, but he won't leave my studio without knowing exactly what he needs to practice until his next lesson. I tell students (especially parents) not to push practicing. If the student isn't practicing at home, he has lost motivation. He can stop and come back when he wants to learn. I consider it m job to keep the student motivated by suppling what they ...

About Roseann

I have been teaching piano for almost 40 years. I have a NY state music teachers license, a masters in music therapy from NYU, and a bachelors in Music Education and AFFA certification.
I try to keep the student self-motivated by using music that the student likes, as well as covering the basics. I use props which can be internalized by the student and gradually removed. For example, using stick-on letter names for the notes for a beginner and then removing them one at a time when the student feels ready.
I am friendly and very easy going; I'm not a disciplinarian. If a student doesn't practice for some reason, we practice together at the next lesson. If a student doesn't want to practice at all, I can be very creative in motivating them. I don't believe in parents forcing their children to practice, because this tends to turn the child

off. Even though I tell parents that if your child doesn't want to play, please don't force it; I tend to keep students for many years (maybe it's because the student's self-motivation is so important to me and to their success).
I also have a lot of experience teaching handicapped individuals as a certified music therapist.
The music therapy has enabled me to be a better teacher in general because the therapeutic aspect comes up in all lessons, in one way or another. Music educators focus on the educational goals of music, while music therapists focus more on the therapeutic goals . A therapeutic goal might be increasing concentration span or self-confidence. These issues often need to be addressed in all lessons, and can only help the learning process.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very easy-going teacher and aim to motivate you. As a music therapist, I have much experience in making each lesson a positive learning experience for you. Most of my professional experience is in teaching piano.
Music intrigued me as a child because I saw learning to play as a great challenge. Because learning to play an instrument can be overwhelming to a student, I have learned through years of teaching to make it understandable - to break it down into steps that will leave you feeling a sense of accomplishment and thinking "I can do this".
I prefer to teach piano lessons, all styles and levels, music theory, music therapy and beginning guitar.
I also teach beginner vocal lessons, and lessons in how to keep the beat
I must add that I have a busy schedule and if a student needs to cancel or reschedule a lesson, I need them to let me know at least 24 hours in advance, or the student will be charged for the lesson.
I'm an animal lover and rescued a homeless cat who lives at the studio. I keep the studio very clean, but
if you're allergic to cats, you may want to consider another teacher. Thank you

I also have an enormous music library.

Private Piano Teacher

My youngest student is 3.5 years old. That said, I also teach adults - sometimes parents take lessons with their kid! Believe me when I say it's very fun and productive when both parent and child knows what needs to be practiced. I usually balance out lessons with not just famous classical pieces, but also with your favorite pop tunes! Every student is different, so I adjust my lessons and provide customized material accordingly.

You will learn technical skills such as scales and arpeggios in fun ways as I incorporate them into songs they want to learn! You will also learn about putting your emotions and interpretation into the music. Music theory is a must for students in order to understand how to read notes. I'll even incorporate some songwriting or composition to develop creativity and originality!

About Tammy

I conduct group lessons for young children, which I am unable to state on my profile/list of services here. You can send me a message if you are interested in them!

I believe EVERYONE should have the opportunity to learn music, especially children, in a fun and enjoyable way! As someone who grew up around music (my mother is a music teacher!) I wish to give that chance to others.

I started playing the piano at around the age of four, and helped out as a substitute teacher at my mother's music school back in Singapore while in High School. I left shortly after to pursue music at Berklee College of Music, where I graduated summa cum laude in August 2013 with a Bachelor's of Music in Piano Performance and Contemporary Writing and Production!

My students range from as 3.5 years old, to the grandmother of a couple of my students. I wo

rk mostly with children, but have a handful of adult beginner students I work with as well.

Everyone is different - and I personally take the time and effort to develop and customize my lessons and materials for each student. I'll push you (a little!), to make you realize just how much you can do!

Music is an all-rounded experience. Not only can I offer you a chance to learn how to play different styles of piano, from jazz to pop to classical, but I can also teach you how to write your own songs, arrange them, and perhaps (if you like) record them!

Private Piano Teacher

I specialize in the Alfred Series for piano and My First Piano Adventure for young students. This approach focuses on ear training and reading music. Custom exercises and choice of material is based on the student's level and field of study. Lessons are scheduled at the student's convenience as per availability. Frequency and length of lessons is based on the students needs.

About Melissa

WHAT TO EXPECT
When meeting with a student for the first time we always discuss his or her needs or goals. After that, we get into the foundation of building technique, starting with posture. Next, the student is assigned breathing exercises to practice. These exercises are structured to energize the body and manage the breath. Every single student learns about appoggio. This is the term used for the process of suspending exhalation while keeping the torso in the position of inhalation by using the transverse abdominis and obliques. Students also learn that the action of the diaphragm is involuntary, therefore the exercises in which we engage are in place to have command over physical activity that we can control.

A TYPICAL VOICE LESSON
After posture and breathing are addressed the students begin to learn how to produce tone,

which encompasses the vocal onset and the closure of the vocal folds. Students realize that proper breath management and producing tone go hand in hand. The ideal that the student and I work towards is a balance between superfluous air flow and and pressed pressure. This concept leads to a clean onset in which the edges of the vocal folds cleanly come together and stay closed during singing.

Students also learn how to negotiate and coordinate the vocal registers. This means that every student who walks into my studio learns where and what the larynx is. It is my job to be a second set of ears to help the student optimize his or her tone quality by maximizing vocal resonance. This concept may be different across genres, however every student learns how to begin coordinating the vocal process.

HOW I TEACH
My aim as a teacher of voice is to be flexible and innovative, and provide students with a clear and honest assessment. I strive to explain to each singer exactly how to complete a task, whether maintaining the position of inhalation or correcting posture. In lessons, I refrain from being demonstrative so that the student can find his or her own unique sound without attempting to copy my sound. I use this method so that the student learns how to be her own teacher. This way, the student will be able to identify and correct her own vocal problems. When I am not present, the student will have confidence in her skills and can make educated corrections in practice, rehearsals, and in performances.

TECHNIQUE
Throughout the course of lessons, it is my job to identify the most effective resonating space for the student and give her the skills to maintain that space. It is through the combination of effective breath management using appoggio and flow-phonation that the student becomes most efficient. Finding the most efficient technique for the student involves discovering the proper laryngeal position for the student’s voice type and by practicing continuity through all of the registers.

As all of the aspects of technique are being built in the studio, it is my job to ensure that I am building a musician. This means that I go over how the student needs to learn a piece and how to perform a piece. Often times with young students, they do not have the musical skills to teach themselves the pieces assigned. Sometimes the voice teacher’s job is to “plunk out the notes.” I highly encourage my students to take piano lessons and to use technology resources to aid them in building musicianship so they feel confident reading music. This process takes time, but it is the first step in building a competent performer.

MY GOALS
I always cater to the students tastes while still meeting requirements, if any. I believe that this fosters joy and excitement in music. My goal as a voice teacher not only involves building a good singer, but creating a performer. I make sure that I not only find performing opportunities for my students, but also I create them. Every semester I hold a studio recital for my students to perform their repertoire in front of an audience. In the Fall of 2015 I founded a local opera company in order to bring classical music to the community. My students made up the chorus of Handel’s Messiah that we performed that December. In addition, I have invited my students to participate in the church choir I direct every week. I believe that learning how to sing must take place in the studio, but the most important thing that I can do as a teacher is to make sure that the student knows how to transfer the skills learned in the classroom to real-world performing experiences.

APPROACH
I believe in a holistic approach to teaching, which involves connection to the text and acting. Though I cover many of these aspects in the studio, it is extremely beneficial for students to go outside of the studio and engage in physical courses such as yoga, Alexander technique, acting and dance. I personally engage in these activities to relate to my students and to be able to explain how we need to engage the body in singing. I also encourage my students to have coachings with other professionals to gain more insight into their repertoire.

Not every student who comes to my studio wants to sing opera. Many students want to sing in choir, in church, or just for fun. Overall, I always come from a place of acceptance and non judgement. Every voice is unique and I strive to help my students not only reach their goals, but surpass them.

ABOUT ME
I have been teaching voice and piano since 2010. Not only an avid teacher, I have performed in music festivals all over the world including The American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, Accademia Europa dell’Opera in Lucca, Italy, Angel Vocal Art in Los Angeles, CA, Russian Opera Workshop in Philadelphia, PA, and Highlands Opera Studio in Haliburton, Ontario. I have also performed with companies including Opera San Jose, The Napa Valley Music Association, The San Francisco Youth Chamber Orchestra, Opera on the Spot, and The Solano Chamber Society.

I earned my Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA with Kevin McMillan. During my time in Harrisonburg, I founded Harrisonburg Opera Theatre and was the church choir director at Sunnyside Retirement Community Meredith Chapel.
I completed my Post-Graduate Artist Diploma in Voice at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of acclaimed opera singer, Deborah Voigt. While in San Francisco, I interned in the Education Department of San Francisco Opera and taught Kindergarten and First grade music with the San Francisco Conservatory in the Schools mentor-ship program. I also received a full scholarship to attend the Rubin Institute for Music Criticism.

I earned my Masters of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of California, Irvine at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts where she sang the National Anthem for President Barack Obama at the school’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. At UC Irvine, I received critical acclaim for my portrayal of Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, and as the Soprano in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater.

Young voice students are taught general concepts, music theory, and ear training. After the voice is more mature, advanced and serious vocal study can be pursued. Melissa's students receive a well-rounded training in the style of their choice: Classical, Popular, Musical Theatre, and Jazz.

I emphasize solid technique, posture, breathing, and control, in addition to music fundamentals.

Love Dr. M! I've wanted to take voice lessons forever but I have been hesitant due to my lack of experience. Dr. M not only made me feel comfortable but also confident in the voice that I have. She's personal and warm but also very professional. She never gets frustrated with obstacles I face in my lessons; instead she helps ways to overcome them.

I've never left a lesson feeling disappointed with my ability, something I experienced with other voice teachers. I feel confident in my voice and I owe that all to Melissa. For instance, during one lessons I was feeling a little off. Rather than getting frustrated she helped me focus on great ways to approach singing when not feeling your best. Dr. McCann rocks!

If you are looking for a voice teacher new or experienced I would definitely recommend Dr. McCann. Top notch lessons and overall awesome woman!

Dr. M. is a phenomenal teacher who does a great job customizing her lessons to the needs of the student. She has helped me make amazing progress with my voice, and just as importantly has helped me gain the confidence to be able to sign.

Her lessons are fun, effective, and very positive. All of which help the student learn more and get more out of the lesson. I highly recommend Dr. M. as a teacher to anyone (at any level) who is interested in becoming a better singer.

Private Piano Teacher

I am a versatile piano teacher with experience teaching students of various ages and levels.

About Alexandra

Music has always been a very significant part of my life. I began taking piano lessons at age seven and grew up listening to and playing classical music. As I started to grow older, the piano began to become such a large part of my identity and a way for me to express my emotions and creativity. My goal is to share and instill this love of music with others!

My educational background includes an MM in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College. During my time here, I completed an internship at Westminster Conservatory teaching group piano classes. Upon graduating, I was offered a position as artist faculty and continued to teach private and group classes at the Conservatory.

I also hold a BM in Piano Performance with a concentration in Pedagogy from the Crane School of Music SUNY Potsdam. During my time at Crane,

I was enrolled in several piano pedagogy practicum classes, where I was able to work with both children and adult students, focusing on beginning-intermediate repertoire.

***Lesson Details****

A working piano/keyboard is required. Electronic keyboards should be full-size with weighted keys. Lessons are tailored to fit the age and level of each student. For beginning students, I start them off in method books that focus on performance, technique, and theory. Students are gradually introduced to musical concepts that will help to build a solid foundation and understanding. I work to reinforce these concepts during each lesson to ensure that they are retained. I believe that all students should be introduced to classical music, but I am happy to teach popular music as well.

***Cancellation Policy***
I ask that students give at least 24-hours notice in the event that they need to cancel. No makeups will be given for no-shows or cancellations with less than 24-hours notice.

I took private piano lessons with Alex for three years. Hands down, Alex was the best teacher I've had. Alex has a knack for teaching. She provided very targeted and detailed feedback on my techniques and taught me how to improve in a very precise way so that I was able to focus on my weaknesses. Alex was the kindest teacher one could possibly imagine. She always delivered her comments in a very accessible manner and made me feel very comfortable and believed that I could improve. I came a long way in the three years under her and I miss her lessons so much! I would recommend Alex to anyone who is interested in learning how to play the piano.

Our 8 year old had been taking violin for two years and was about to the point of quitting due to the lack of motivational teaching. I went in search of a teacher that could motivate her while still progressing rapidly each week! My daughter is so eager to please Cristina, because she makes the lessons fun and interesting. When I check in to see how the lesson is going, my daughter is engaged, and answering questions correctly which tells me she's still paying attention - even in the evening hours when she's tired. Cristina mixes classical and popular music as well. I still have to ask my daughter to practice each night but she pulls out her violin on her own a couple of times a week as well. It's a complete 180 from where we were 8 months ago. Cristina is a rare find and I'd recommend her to anyone who wants to ensure their child is getting the best violin training while being inspired!

Our 11 year old daughter, Drew, started with Cristina for a little over a year, and has made some amazing progress from not knowing how to play, to having great intonation and musicality. Cristina teaches our daughter in a way that works with her interests and learning style, rather than having a regimented curriculum. I think this has allowed Drew to be way more excited about playing.

i've been playing music all my life but since i'm a square parent, it's hard for me to teach drew :) Cristina does a great job giving her guidance during the lesson.
i would highly recommend her as a teacher!

I believe that the most effective teaching approach involves a positive and engaging environment with the aim of increasing a child's sense of confidence and autonomy with the skills as we work through their difficulties. This 'friend approach' promotes an environment in which children feel safe asking questions and expressing confusion in our sessions, which allows us to work together and develop tactics that allow the child to better handle these struggles independently in the future. I have seen my students flourish in both the lesson environment and at home as we have worked to learn and improve problem solving skills and passion in their music.

I have worked with children for years in a multitude of environments; in childcare, as a music teacher, and as a private tutor. This range of experience has given me the perfect tools to assist children with tackling the many obstacles faced both with school work and in music lessons. Carrie is a musician. First and foremost you can feel Carrie's love for music and exceptional knowledge and talent in the art.

Carrie is a great teacher. She is an excellent listener and thus is able to really understand the needs of each student and how to help each one individually. It is easy to see her enthusiasm for music and teaching with her happy and kind demeanor.

"Randy currently teaches piano to our three school-aged boys. He makes lessons fun - so much so that he and my boys inspired me to take lessons myself. I
took over ten years of classical piano lessons as a child, and earned a college scholarship to study piano performance. I walked away from it in part because I didn't want to endure the pursuit of perfection while playing someone else's music. I wanted to play my own songs, but had no idea how. I could master complex classical pieces, but was lost without sheet music. I stopped playing piano entirely for a while. Twenty years later, I am now a recovering classical pianist. I have the time and interest to learn a whole new form of music - jazz piano. Randy's guidance is supportive, intuitive, and collaborative. I enjoy lessons as much as my kids - and am playing again! Randy's classical training combined with the depth of his impressive professional experiences permit him to teach everyone just about anything - from our youngest son who is just learning the basics, to someone like me with a background in classical music theory. Thank you!"
