I am an active professional singer with six years of teaching experience in both voice and piano. While my degrees specialize in vocal performance, I have studied piano privately for over 10 years. My students include a range of levels and ages who vary in musical aspirations and backgrounds. My students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians when studying with me. I am a friendly, open-minded, enthusiastic musician who loves teaching others!

About Elise
I am a professional, classically trained soprano with a love for theater and the arts! In addition to being a performer, I also love teaching music lessons. My private vocal studio includes a range of students from young children to adults, who vary in musical aspirations and sing in many different styles, including opera, art song, jazz, blues, pop, and musical theater. My students have gone on to sing on Broadway, pursue music and theater degrees, compete and win competitions. I have extensive training and knowledge of proper vocal use, as well as a passion for teaching my students self expression through music. My students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians, and my goal is to give students the tools to become life long, passionate musicians themselves!

Elise is an incredible voice coach! She listens close to your vocal needs and helps you achieve the vocal aspirations. I worked with Elise for a little more than nine months and my range, tone, and technique improved so much. By far best vocal coach I've ever had.

About the teacher:
I first picked up a trombone when I was 12, and have not put it down for the past 18 years. After being awarded an “Excellent Player” Award by the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society which led to the opportunity of performing with a professional Jazz Band, performing with a number of honor bands in middle and teaching at a music camp 3 summers of high school career. I decided to pursue music in College. I received a Bachelors of Music Classical Trombone Performance from California State University, San Jose. I’ve been performing professionally for 7 years and have played in every genre I could get my hands on (Classical, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Musicals, Ska, Electronic).

Testimonial:
"Daniel has been teaching trombone to my teenage son. There are many aspects of his way of teaching that make him such an excellent teacher. First of of all, he is a true musician. He has an uncanny ability to share his passion for music before getting into teaching technicalities. He takes care of every musical aspect: musical knowledge, breath control, tone quality, tonguing, dynamics, and mutes. I highly recommend him. My only regret is that, since he left California, he will only be a treasure for New Yorkers...

I really like Daniel. His love for music is infectious. As a teacher, he's patient, crazy smart, and easy to be around. He's also a deep thinker, which makes him really good at using simple analogy to help me understand complex concepts. It's a fun way to learn. TBH I was very surprised to leave lessons not just having learned new ways of thinking about music, but also about myself, and how I can start moving out of my own way. I recommend Daniel without hesitation.

About Andrew
I've been studying music for 10 years now. Having come to music later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I've completed my Bachelors degree in Music, taught privately and with several established music schools.

To me, music is above all about transformation. Beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, and learning an instrument can help students approach life as one big instrument they need to practice to master.
Learning to play an instrument is also an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused
, training is applicable to any new skill.
Last and definitely not least, playing music is fun.

*** Lesson Details ***

I plan my lessons around getting students to enjoy playing music as soon as possible, whether that means learning how to strum a chord rhythmically, playing their favorite song, or how to take a blues solo.
There are steps that have to be climbed to do more complex things and I encourage students to practice a little every day rather than for a long time once or twice a week. Developing a love of music and steady practice habits are more beneficial over the long term than practicing until your limit.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I currently have a living room space where I can teach, but it's small so it might be preferable to travel to you.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If necessary I can provide amplification, cables, and a microphone.

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Hip-hop, Funk, Reggae.

Learn piano the basics of accompaniment on the piano including chord changes, scales, and rhythmic patterns. Piano can often be an overwhelming instrument, but I approach teaching piano in a free, expressive, and functional way. No stress, no "have to's" just exploration of sounds through melodies, harmonies, and rhythms.

About Jillian
I have a Master's degree in Music Therapy, am a nationally board certified music therapist (MT-BC); performer and vocal instructor (Bachelor's in Classical Voice); certified yoga instructor and meditation guide (200+); certified and attuned Reiki master; professional freelance writer and editor.

...I find joy in a lot of places! And often I find these areas of study inform and augment each other.

Music therapy has afforded me a great deal of experience working with children, teens, and adults with special needs including, autism, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbances and developmental delays as well as teens and adults with psychosocial issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, personality disorders, and more.

I incorporate my experience as a therapist into the educative setting.

As a voice teacher, I want to help my students settle comfortably into their own musicality by showing them the building blocks of a solid technique, drawing particularly from the things that helped me grow as a vocalist. I want my students to feel strong in their body, comfortable and relaxed in their breath, and confident in their performance.

I am a professional vocalist in NYC. I perform liturgical and classical music, as well as musical theater repertoire. I participate in professional operas, choral groups and other concert series. Performing gives me a sense of bliss and completeness that is indescribable.

As a certified yoga instructor, I teach in many locations throughout Westchester. I was trained at Yoga Haven in Scarsdale, New York with Betsy Kase, and earned a 200-hour certificate in Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. I offer private yoga instruction and meditation at my home studio. My studio comes fully equipped with all yoga props, aromatherapy, and music. Hands-on-assists and personalized classes offered to deepen your experience.

It is a joy to offer Reiki to curious, open clients in need of energy healing. Reiki is a noninvasive energy healing technique totally separate of any religious affiliation and available to anyone. It is a difficult to describe the relaxing, soothing, and deep-healing effects of Reiki to someone who has never experienced.

I teach piano in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play a certain style like Funk, or Blues, or how to approach a classical sonata. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

About John
Hello,

Thanks so much for taking the time to inquire about studying music with me.

Music and studying music has always been a passionate experience for me. I have been so blessed with the teachers and fellow musicians in my life. You should realize that your study of music may start with me, but it will last your entire lifetime. I hope that all of your life you will have a rewarding relationship to music and the spirit of great sounds!

I have performed in great jazz clubs in New York, on Broadway, and performing arts centers across the country. I'm currently playing in many great performing ensembles. I have put out two CD's as a leader and played on multiple CD's for other artists.

It has been my pleasure to teach privately, as well as in the classroom for 15 years. I enjoy performing many different types of music. I pri
de myself on being very open minded in terms of musical taste. Never apologize for liking what you like! I bet there is something in that music which is great. I can't wait to learn something from the music you introduce to me.

I be glad to provide a full resume to anyone who requests it.

*** Lesson Details ***

My most important goal for each student is that they get to where they want to be musically.

I want the student to be able to play the way he or she wants to play. If you want to learn to play one song, that is great! If you want to learn to play one classical etude that is just as great! If you want to learn how to play in a salsa band, bravo! I treat the desires of my students as my curriculum. Each student will receive special prep time from me each week. I pride myself in taking the time and energy to prepare for each meeting. Every time you complete a lesson, it is my hope that you are walking away as a better musician.

In the beginning I hope to find what will musically interests you the most. Usually, you might have a goal that requires you to play on a higher level than you do presently. If that is true, we might take some time to figure out a road map to get you to that place. Along the way, I'm sure you and I will learn many new concepts and techniques that aid you in becoming the bassist/musician you want to be.

And rest assured, the teacher always learns from the student...this is the best part of teaching: learning from the student.

*** Studio Equipment ***

Studio: 3 electric basses, plenty of amps and chords, one acoustic bass, piano, ukulele, guitar, computer playback and recording.

*** Travel Equipment ***
As requested

*** Specialties ***
I have been lucky to play tons of different types of music. I believe I can give musicians and aspiring musicians a deep understanding of what is most important in many different styles of music. Music I have been lucky enough to study and play professionally: Jazz, Rock, Funk, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Blues, Classical, Pop.
I'm also a very good transcriber, so if there is a song you heard on the radio we can definitely play it! Ear training could be an area in which I could be of service to you as well.
I have many arranging and composing credits and I would be glad to help students in this area whenever requested.

Love my lessons

John is an amazing teacher all around. Very professional and good at getting me to understand things which may be a bit confusing. I am currently reading and playing between four books and I never thought it would be possible especially just after taking lessons for a year. Sometimes I feel a bit frustraited when I am not able to play certain pieces or when I dont understand a concept but John is great at breaking everything down and making it easier. I am now realizing how my piano skills can be utilizied in my other music projects. When I attend my lessons I am reminded why I love having them so much. With him as my instructor I can see my skills improving and I know I will only get better. I recommend piano lessons to everyone and if you are looking to have a great teacher John is your go to person !

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

About Matthew
I have been playing professionally for over 30 years and have taught for over 10. I am proficient on keyboards, guitar, bass, ukelele, as well as lead and harmony vocals and songwriting. My focus is on developing your musical intuition through ear training, and accessing the music within. I have a home recording studio to help with the learning process. I provide a fun, safe, non-critical environment where you can access your inner musician in the most enjoyable way possible.

Many of my students have gone onto become prolific songwriters and musicians and have recorded albums. Even beginners can learn quickly from my method which emphasizes techniques for keeping learning music fun.

My 10th CD was released last year on Sojourn Records and was featured as NPR song of the day. Over the years my music has received much critical accl
aim as I have continued to tour the world. I have opened for legends such as David Bowie, Ron Sexsmith, Robyn Hitchcock, Morphine, Bob Mould, Freedy Johnston, among many others. I have produced over a dozen albums by other artists and songwriters, and composed for major motion pictures including last years film, WON’T BACK DOWN starring Maggie Gyllenhaal.

“In a career spanning more than 20 years, he has established himself as one of America's great under-the-radar songwriters. Had he emerged five decades back, he might have been a Tin Pan Alley stalwart, turning out intelligent, accessible songwriting with the clockwork genius of and Gary Goffin. His work is rife with the clever, incisive tunefulness that marked that era.”-- National Public Radio

*** Lesson Details ***
Students can expect to discover or re-discover their love for music and and their own natural musical inclinations. Many students report an increased sense of joy and possibility in their own lives. Curriculum depends on level of student, but is focused on being able to play favorite songs, develop comfort and ease in playing style, and accessing creativity and originality in approach. After 3 to 6 months working with me, most students can feel comfortable calling themselves a musician!

*** Specialties ***
I teach mainly guitar, keyboards, ukelele, and voice from beginning up to intermediate. I try to incorporate songwriting into the process as i find that it speeds up the process and helps to encourage enthusiasm and a more focused effort and better results. I am fluent in most styles but come from a folk, rock, country, pop background. I also have a home studio and use recording techniques to develop style and vocal ability.

I use the "Little Mozarts" series with 4-7 year-old piano students, and prefer the "Bastien" method for the older kids. I intersperse the lessons with theory and listening exercises, and interpolate movement and outside songs to keep the lessons as fun as possible.

About Monica
I'm a performing artist and music teacher. I received my Bachelors and Masters degree in vocal performance at Boston's New England Conservatory, where I was a member of the jazz, classical, and third-stream departments. I also spent 8 years gigging in Berlin, Germany and teaching adults and teenagers. However, I've always also enjoyed working with kids; especially introducing them to music through piano, language, movement, role-playing, and singing. I have the most experience teaching piano, and I think it's the best instrument to start on, if you don't know much about music. But flute was my first instrument, and singing is my forte!

Unlike many piano teachers, I am still actively performing in the music scene today. I tour internationally with top musicians, write music that has made it on the radio, and intimately know music production. This means that every skill or method I will teach you, will apply to making music in this modern age. I will work with you to craft a lesson plan that directly correlates with your specific music goals to make sure you are getting exactly what you want. I have taught music for over 10 years to students of every age and music genre. I look forward to working with you and achieving your musical goals!

About Kevin
Hi! I'm a jazz pianist who loves everything all kinds of music from Twenty One Pilots to Bruno Mars to Kanye West. I've taught music for over 10 years to students of all ages and this has allowed me to develop a style of teaching the fundamentals of music, but packaged in a highly relevant way to young students. My music teaching studio that not only encompasses private piano lessons, but also music technology, voice, ensemble, and songwriting lessons as well. In my studio I give my students all of my available resources and treat it as a mentorship that doesn't end strictly when the lesson is over. Students that have started lessons with me have gone from writing their first song, to recording their first EP and publishing their music in record time. This shows the dedication I bring to making sure every student receives my maximum atte
ntion and focus.
Although teaching is an important part of my music career, my primary focus has always been music performance. As a pianist I specialize in my versatility across genres. I perform with and alongside nationally touring indie/pop acts such as the Plain White T’s, Emily Kopp, and Alex Di Leo, as well as run my own jazz trio, Madd Jazz. I am also currently part of a piano/cello duo, Strings Attached, that has performed concerts in Miami, NY, and Italy. Our duo specializes in writing and performing unique arrangements of jazz, folk, and pop songs into seamless mashups and medleys.
I look forward to teaching you music!
All the best, Kevin Maddox

I had an excellent experience learning Piano and Songwriting from Kevin. He taught me a ton of music theory concepts, as well as a wealth of contemporary songwriting techniques to vastly improve my music as a songwriter. I always felt like I left his class with new, useful knowledge, and I don't think I could've ever asked for a better teacher.
