You'll have an enjoyable & fun learning experience that will include songs, finger exercises & the music theory behind it all!

About Judy
First of all, leave any fear or doubt at the door! We will work together to help you build and develop your voice for whatever your need. Whether you are a beginner just realizing you can sing, a high school student needing to prepare for your college auditions or a professional singer getting ready for an upcoming audition, I can get you where you need to be! My philosophy of voice instruction, developed over twenty-five years of teaching experience, personal vocal study and professional singing, focuses on three primary areas:
- Proper singing technique
- Key principles of voice training
- Breath development as a foundation for singing
- Care of the voice
- Varied and appropriate repertoire
In addition, voice training demands an exceptional ability to connect with the student on a personal level. Vocal in
struction is a highly individualized art. The melding of both the technical and the personal aspects of singing is the dynamic that creates an effective and successful teaching/learning experience. Augmenting my teaching experience, I have been heavily involved in productions with children and young adults, using my musical knowledge, vocal expertise and skill in dance and choreography.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University. I am a professional singer and actress and a member of Equity and SAG-AFTRA.

*** Lesson Details ***
I find that when a student arrives for their lesson, they usually are a bit tense, either because they were stuck in traffic, had a bad day at work, did poorly on a test at school, etc. So we always start with some stretches to loosen up and clear the mind. For voice students, we'll move on to technique building, working with breathing exercises, learning about good support and placement. Next, we'll continue the warm up with a series of varied exercises-think "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music-and then move on to songs. Your repertoire will be varied. You'll be singing classical music (really helps to build and strengthen the voice), music theater, pop, country and anything you may be interested in singing! That being said, since this is your lesson time, you may need to prepare for an audition, a solo at church or some other performance and may need to devote your entire lesson to that preparation. And that's fine with me. We need to be flexible to help you get the most from your time with me!

Whatever you are studying, always know that my primary goal is your growth as a musician and performer.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Open loft area with a black grand piano. Music. Cabinets. Seating for parents. Street parking available for those who are driving. 5 minute walk to subway. 1 small dog and one cat.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a digital recorder & cassette recorder. I find it is better for my students to have their own voice recorder but I can record for them.

*** Specialties ***
My experience as a performer has been varied, ranging from fronting a rock band in the 80's to cantoring for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to music theater (I am a member of Equity & SAG) to jingle & commercial work. I specialize in music theater and classical but am very comfortable working with pop & rock.

Judy is great! Very flexible! She's a great listener, so it's easy to explain what I think my weaknesses are (she's also good at pointing out things I didn't know I have a problem with) and she knows so many exercises to address them. She's also very patient, kind and positive, so I never feel down or hopeless about what I'm trying to accomplish. Definitely the best teacher I've had so far!

My first vocal teacher and the best!

Ms. Rachel was an amazing vocal teacher! We would always start off with simple and fun warm-ups, breathing techniques, and would practice singing songs from musicals. My first couple lessons she taught me how to sing I Feel Pretty from West Side Story and we both had so much fun with it! After a little while we learned Cups from Pitch Perfect and then we got into the Vaccai book and I learned a couple songs from there. Overall Ms. Rachel was the best! She even offered to Skype a lesson with me since she moved. She cared about me and always helped me improve my voice in every way she could. I love her!

Lessons are provided in a private studio in Astoria, NY or your home. Once, a location is established I work with each student to identify his or her goals and objectives both musically and personally. Students are assessed to determine where their individual ability is at the time of assessment. From there, I work in partnership with the student as we begin mastering the guitar or the piano in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you are interested in learning to play the blues, classical or jazz guitar or any other genre or just learning how to play songs on the piano, I can help. If you are a beginner, don't worry it won't all be scales. In fact I guarantee you will be playing a song within your first lesson. If you are an advanced or intermediate student, I can help you master your skills. We (you and I) will revisit proper right and left hand techniques; utilize exercises to improve your speed and accuracy. You will learn new methods to strengthen your improvisation abilities. In short, you and I will make sure to build on your strengths and undo any bad habits that are hindering your ability to grow as a guitarist or pianist.

About Ramona
I'm a professional musician and audio engineer. I'm a classically trained pianist and I offer lessons in piano, guitar, voice, music theory, music recording, music performance and songwriting.

I received my music education from The Brooklyn Music School, Cornell University and the The Institute of Audio Research.

I perform in original & cover bands as a keyboardist and back up singer. I also do work for hire session recordings and have composed music for commercials and short films.

As an audio engineer, I record, mix, edit, arrange, master and program demos, EPs albums, mix-tapes, karaoke tracks and ringtones. I also produce as well. I co-own a project recording studio in Brooklyn, NY called Radian Studios.

I'm very passionate about what I do and I guarantee a creative, enjoyable and fulfilling experience!

For piano and voice, I incorporate basic music theory methods but I also focus on ear training as well. My ultimate goal when teaching is for the student to have a visceral experience while playing or singing.

For audio engineering, I go over audio recording techniques and the tools & equipment needed to produce a professional sounding song.

I enjoy imparting my knowledge of music to others and I demonstrate that enthusiasm in my teaching style. I love relating what I'm teaching a student to his/her learning style. Figuring out how someone learns is a key component to my method and I'm a better instructor because of it.

Amazing teacher!

Amanda has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. She knows what she is doing and tells me all the "secrets" to singing correctly. She makes learning fun and pushes me to reach my full potential at every lesson. Just when I think I have reached my limit, she shows me that I can do even better. I love taking lessons with Amanda. She is the best teacher I have ever had and I recommend her to anyone who is serious about learning how to sing.

Two years later, in 2016, he won the First Prize at the American Proteges International Concerto Competition. He had been my piano teacher and mentor for 5+years. Equipped with marvelous knowledge and meticulousness on music and piano performance, he is capable and willing to uphold his professionalism. He is not going to move on until you have mastered certain fundamental musical ideations or techniques. Mr. Brian is not the type of teacher who only talks in theory or with instructions, but he can actually perform what he demands from students. Hence, he is doubtlessly a marvelous piano performer, as well as instructor, where I am certain students can learn a lot from his lessons.

Having performed jazz, funk, rock, pop, blues, Brazilian fusion, and classical among other genres, I use the fluidity between these inform each of my lessons. Whether a student is a beginner looking to play their favorite song on the radio, an intermediate looking for some music theory to give them more options in their playing, or an advanced player looking for improvisatory techniques, I tailor each session to the desires of each student and their learning style.

About Daniel
I'm a gigging musician and teacher who graduated from Oberlin College in May 2015 with a degree in Musical Studies and Physics. I was on the Division III tennis team there for two years as well. I pride myself on patience and empathy no matter what I teach, whether it feeling the pulse of a complicated drum groove or solving a challenging physics word problem. For music lessons, I strive to bring in a context of genre fluidity and history, so that a student knows where and what to explore on their own even when I am not in the room to show them. Overall, my teaching is all about inspiring students to do well and make their strengths work for them, rather than dryly coming up with the "right answer" or playing a tune the "right way" to get from point A to point B.
