I have been a professional singer since 1983 and have taught since 1986. I studied voice and trained classically from 1972 - 1982. Several of my students have been professional singers, from rock to opera. I teach the individual to understand the technicalities of the vocal instrument; how to breathe correctly, understand the internal acoustics and how to access them, how to project healthily, how to relax and get out of the way of using your instrument, and so much more. This is not your typical voice curriculum, but even more essential if you want to keep your voice in top form all your life. At 67, I can sing with or without amplification for several hours a day indefinitely because I have mastered the techniques I will teach you.
About Barbara

I teach singing and have extensive curriculum and teaching materials. I primarily use Alfred Vocal Technique books, but also other supplemental books. During the first lesson, I determine the student's vocal range by having him/her sing up and down the scale. I teach vocal techniques, correct diaphragm breathing, correct singing stance, diction and vowel formation, emoting while singing, connecting to the song, memorization techniques, understanding music history, and much more. I have available to my students a vast array of vocal literature and materials from which they can choose.I have been singing since I was a preschooler and love to sing to touch people's hearts. I have a B.A. in Music Education with a vocal emphasis. I have been trained in the Alexander Technique, have had 7 semesters of private voice lessons at college level, and attended upper level vocal pedagogy classes. I love to teach singing to students and share the rich experiences and knowledge I have.

I am a faculty member at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a phi beta kappa graduate of Yale University, a 5-time recipient of the San Francisco Cabaret Gold Award, and an award-winning songwriter. My daughter takes lesson from Holly. My daughter who cried when I would sing to her as an infant, who begged me to stop singing when she was in elementary. My daughter who would not participate in annual caroling, who early on in her academic instructions learned to mouth "watermelon" to give the impression she sings along. Now in high school, she takes lessons from Holly. My daughter enthusiastically belts out the words to songs! Holly is helping her to find her voice- musically, and in life. My daughter will now let me sing!

For months now, the Billboard chart has looked pretty similar each week, with Adele perched at the #1 spot with her hit album 21. Adele has maintained that spot for 18 weeks now, needing only 3 more weeks to pass previous records made by the Bodyguard soundtrack and Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii. With an accomplishment like this, we don't see her leaving the spotlight for some time. As a singer, you've no doubt heard about the importance of proper breathing. In fact, deep breathing can he …
