I didn't identify as a singer until college, which was where I discovered opera. Classical singing so beautifully exemplifies the versatility of the human voice; I fell in love and joined a choir. Through my experiences, I learned anyone can sing and that training your ear and voice can be accessible to all with a baseline knowledge of music theory. I strive to give my students freedom to sing what they love, help them explore their abilities, and make them better musicians.

About Motya

I am a recent graduate of the University of Maryland with degrees in Piano Performance and Music Education. I've been teaching piano for over 6 years, and voice for 2 years. Earlier this year I founded Fermata Music Studio which uses the Arts Integration system to contextualize music in students

My specialty is voice training. Vocal coaching can only present a positive effect on the voice. Many people who sing have a natural talent but with enough wear and tear on the vocal chords, it can be damaged also. Certain damages come in the form of nodule (pronounced nodes) or polyps, these are puss inflamed irritations that develop due to misuse of the voice caused by screaming, singing strictly from the chest without the use of head tones, just to mention a few.
Piano is one of the best percussion instrument learned by the vocalist. Its clarity of tonality helps to correct aural sound non-comprehension.

About LaTishia

LaTishia has 19 years of experience in the field of management in entertainment, program coordinating and vocal/piano coaching. Her educational Background express B.A. in Arts Administration from Westminster Choir College (soon to be completed), located in Princeton NJ. Her experiences, surpasses m

My son enjoys his music lessons with Jonathan, who is infinitely patient teaching what can be a challenging instrument. My son responds well to Jonathan's instruction, and he appreciates having access to a professional performer as a teacher. Jonathan encourages my son to learn a variety of music, including both challenging classical pieces and more recognizable popular and jazz pieces, which helps to sustain his interest in the lessons.

I have been taking vocal classes with Mrs. Lawson off and on about 3 years or so. At first I thought being that I have a male voice type and her as a women that she wouldn't really be able to help me. She approved me wrong and exceeded my expectation of her. The thing i love most about Ms.Lawson is that she is very patient and she would make sure you understand the material. She is very knowledgeable and she never puts you down and she helps you gain that confidence within yourself. If you are looking for a vocal teacher I Highly recommend I am now doing things that I couldn't never done and now I'm doing it with ease and skillfully. I give her 2 thumbs up!!!!!!"

"First, I had some previous singing lesson but did not really get to sing properly and my throat was always straining. Benjamin took me from the basic with breathing and how to correctly lean on the air. It took a little time, and now i feel so comfortable when I sing. My vocal resonance and control has really improved. I do not sing with my throat no more, I feel effortless and I control my intercoastal muscles very well. Benjamin is really Great, Patient and Understanding instructor. He has made to start loving and accepting my voice.
I strongly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn the freedom of singing and how good it feels to sing your favorite songs at ease."

"Jenn has been working with my daughter for about 18 months. She was a complete beginner when she started, outside of singing in the chorus at school. My daughter very much enjoys working with Jenn and they have fun while still getting the job done. Jenn is soft spoken and kind which is what I wanted. She is great about letting the kids work often on songs they like which makes it more interesting for the student. My daughter loves musical theater and Jenn has helped her with some audition pieces as well. And having the lessons at home is such a help to me! Give her a try! You won't be disappointed!"

The Shy Singer's Survival Guide

Getting up on stage can be scary for any new musician, but the feelings of anxiety can be even more intense if you consider yourself on the quiet side. So how can a shy singer survive? Before you relegate yourself to the audience for the rest of your life, know that many timid musicians have made a name for themselves - Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan and Carly Simon, to name a few, have all dealt with anxiety or shyness off-stage. The good news is that there are ways to train yourself to become a c …
