Experienced piano teacher of 15 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation in rhythm, reading, style and performance skills. I specialize in pop, gospel, jazz and classical, typically use methods books for beginners, and also use materials that experienced students already have. (No need to buy all new stuff if you like what you have.)

About Athena
About Me

If you can recognize your favorite song when you hear it, you already have what it takes to be a great musician!

MY PROMISE TO YOU:
1. Your lesson will always be geared toward what YOU want to learn, and if it seems like we are working on something that doesn't match that, I will always take the time to make clear why what we are doing will have you be able to play what you want.
2. You already have every skill you need to be a great performer, and my job is just to steer the ship in the right direction to have that happen. All I am ever doing in a lesson is making sure that we are moving you in the ultimate direction that you want to be going musically.
3. I will do everything I know how to do to make sure that what I have learned that will benefit you becomes something you have mastered. If I could take th
e "computer chip" in my head and put it in yours, we would do that. Study with me and you will get the next best thing!
4.If I say something that isn't clear, or isn't useful to you, I will ALWAYS re-explain, or say it a different way, until it is useful to you and something you know how to use for your benefit on your instrument.
5. If you have a practice schedule set up with me, and for any reason you do not have time to practice or get an assignment done, I GOT IT! You can always tell me, because I've been there and I know. Music Lessons are NOT school, and I will never act like they are.

OK, now for the credentials:

MY EDUCATION

I learned how to read music at 4 years old, before I had even learned to read English. If I can do that, anyone can do that given the right set of elements.
1. I started singing at three, piano lessons at nine, began teaching myself guitar at twelve and I have never stopped playing and learning since then.
2. I earned a B.A in Music from Towson University and graduated Magna cum Laude with a Major in Jazz/Commercial Piano Performance and a Minor in Opera.
3. I made my stage performing debut in a solo role at six, and I have never stopped performing since then. I wrote my first song, all by myself, at eleven and have composed over 1000 pieces since then.
4. I have studied brain science and practical neurology for fifteen years as part of my continuing education.

MY EXPERIENCE

In addition to my extensive study of the piano, I have had many other valuable experiences as a musician and teacher, including but not limited to the following:

1. I have been a choral singer for twenty three years, and during that time toured Italy, sang at St. Martin of Tours Church in Los Angeles for fifteen of those years, and worked on mastering just about every form of sacred choral and gospel music.

2. As a soloist, began performing professionally in 1988 and have done numerous performances of my own compositions around Southern California. I also have had songs of mine pitched to major artists in Nashville and currently compose both contemporary music and feature songs for film and television.

3. I developed a method of curing tone deafness, and authored a course that teaches this to anyone whether they are a trained singer or beginner. I also authored a second course specifically for karaoke singers to learn stage presence and better performance skills.

4. I have been teaching for twenty years, working with students from 3 to 78 years old at every level of musical experience. I have taught not only music performing and instrumental technique, but song-writing, arranging, and the tricky task of singing while playing an instrument to accompany one's self. Believe me, this is a skill that DOES take a separate set of lessons to master, but every student who studies it with me does!

In short, if it's music, or even music-related, I've done it and I can teach it and I can figure out the best method to have your brain master it!

My Specialties:
Working with kids and young people in a SAFE environment to learn their instrument
Rhythm, and understanding why it is your ticket to musical mastery
How to use your own brain to be your own best teacher (when I'm not there in a lesson with you!)
Pop, Classical, Gospel, Rock, Musical Theater,

Your BRAIN is your greatest musical asset, and I have spent the past twenty-five years learning how to make the musical brain easy for everyone.

I've been a musician since I was in the cradle, and I
learned to read music before I could read English! Over the past twenty years of teaching piano, voice and guitar I have learned how to use your brain, and the basic musical skills you ALREADY have to help you turn yourself into a great musician and performer.

If you can tap your foot along with a song, and you can recognize Mary Had a Little Lamb, you've got what it takes. My specialty is taking these simple skills you already have and using them to teach you EVERYTHING you want to know how to do on your instrument. I also teach combined
lessons so that you can learn more than one instrument in your course of study if that is what you choose.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Large studio space with a piano and plenty of room to make noise! In fact, our room just got a terrific upgrade with new carpet and paint, so it looks great, feels great and sounds great.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student provides piano in their home for piano lessons. Voice students provide a recording device to record their lesson for their practice. Guitar students provide their guitar, any amps, cables, anything else they need for their rig. All students provide any CD's or mp3's they are working with during study. They pay for all books needed.

*** Specialties ***
Beginner level through advanced in kid songs, pop, rock, gospel, contemporary Christian, Broadway and classical. Emphasis on rhythm and technique. Lessons specialize in using knowledge of brain neuroscience practical applications in hearing, learning, reading, practicing and performing music.

What you'll expect is a mix of sight reading, technique learning and playing, book performance and improvisation by ear for each lesson in the style the student wishes to learn about. If needed, I also write individual exercises tailored to each student and their practice routine.

About Cody
With my two Bachelor's degrees in Music Composition and Technology, I began tutoring students in piano, voice, and composition as it was part of my training. I also have experience writing and editing essays, books, and more for several independent clients. I have experience writing my own books as well. I have written two so far, but am getting ready to write a third. I am a copious editor and can catch grammatical and other errors with ease. This is why tutoring in English would be great for me.
I thought I would add basic math for those school-aged children that are having a little trouble with it in their classes.
Usually, I teach lessons in my home in Diamond Bar or online, but if the need arises, I could surely work out coming to the students' homes for one-on-one tutoring help. With me, most students click after a few lessons and
understand what they couldn't in the classroom. I help the students by teaching in innovative ways that will catch their attention more than standard teaching methods. Students should consider me for I can make learning fun and never a chore!

*** Lesson Details ***
I use a wide variety of techniques to sing, play piano and other instruments. Techniques include straight vowel singing (no words) to test how long to hold notes, using color to help people sight read, using improvisational techniques in order to play jazz, rock, classical and many other styles of music.
I use what they student has under his or her belt as a starting point to see what lessons we could start them on.
I also assist with online lessons to make transportation a thing of the past. If you've got a webcam or Skype, I can do long-distance lessons with you! So, I am here to help!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Alesis Recital Keyboard
Music sheets
Web cam
Mac computer (MacBook Pro)
Finale music notation software to help in composition and theory lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Music paper for away lessons.
Finale for composition and music theory lessons.
Can use macbook for more elaborate teaching or demonstration if need be.

*** Specialties ***
I do teach classical composition with specialties in ensemble and chamber music. I also specialize in songwriting for pop and other media.
I teach voice and vocal techniques of sacred choral and vocal music.
I teach classical and jazz piano and improvisation. I also have the distinction in being able to teach students with special needs or learning disabilities as I have a mild form of cerebral palsy and understand what students with special needs go through.

The guitar is the instrument with which I have developed bad habits and posture over the years, but in addition to correcting these things, I really needed help with music theory. Also, as opposed to being a kid with all the time in the world to practice and study, I'm a 40-something with a busy, full-time job in the middle of my daily life. De'Anza was flexible enough to work with these issues of mine while still keeping me focused on a positive, effective lesson plan. That is the mark of a professional. Thank you De'Anza!

She Inspires my daughter to want to learn and to grow as a musician. In the last few months of studying with De'anza, my daughter has notably improved vocally as well as learned so much more. Keith is a an awesome teacher! I learned so much from him in the span of a few weeks. Every lesson is packed full of information and he makes sure you totally get and understand the lesson before moving onto the next chapter. I really appreciate that he corrects me whenever I make mistakes especially when it comes to staying on beat while playing the piano with the metronome. Lessons are also never boring with him. I feel that he truly cares for the musical growth of his students. Although, I'm taking a break from Take Lessons when I enroll again I will choose Keith for Piano/Music Theory.

I've studied with some of the greats, such as Tigran Hamasyan, Vardan Ovsepian, Adam Benjamin, Josh Nelson, and Gary Fukushima. I have a very nice Yamaha U3 piano at my home that I use to teach lessons. I've been teaching for about 7 years now.

About Mesrop
I am a music lover. I love anything and everything that is music. It has been one of the most consistent things in my life since I was a child, and there's nothing that makes me happier than making that a reality for someone else.

I've spent a lot of time studying with different musicians, such as Tigran Hamasyan, Ben Wendel, Ari Hoenig, Adam Benjamin, Josh Nelson, Vardan Ovsepian, and many other amazing musicians. I've also spent a lot of time studying different genres of music, which is why I'm capable of teaching almost any style of music.

I believe in designing lessons around each student's goals and needs, so every student gets a personally tailored lesson plan that will help excel them into being an amazing musician. I believe that great music teachers leave lasting impressions on their students. I wish to impart on my studen
ts the same lessons and experiences that have influenced me throughout my journey.

I've always enjoyed playing guitar and bass, but the added element of piano was something that seemed so daunting I convinced myself to let it go. Mesrop was able to break it down so simply for me from the start, and I'm extremely thankful for his patience and focus throughout lessons. Along the way, I picked up more on theory and am now more comfortably able to transcribe as well. I think he's a tremendous musician but an equally excellent teacher.

I firmly think that leaning a music instrument must be a joyful and fun experience and it should be all about having fun as long as students learn, accomplish musical goals and build up their confidences. That is pretty much what I do in my piano lessons by guiding my students in the process of achieving their own aims, supervising that every single step is well taken and making them realize their small achievements so that they are able to develop musical confidence.
Just let me help you accomplish your goals of piano playing and have fun as long as we do so.

About Diego
In addition to being responsible, reliable and patient. I’m a fanatic for teaching – particularly when it is about guiding children, adolescents, and adults in their love for learning music. As a music instructor with more than eight years' experience, I have learned how to teach instruments such as guitar, bass, and piano in an efficient and enjoyable way, always looking for satisfying students' needs and their love for playing. I will apply my expertise to every single class in order to help you to accomplish your musical aims and needs with the best outcomes. When do we start?

Hi there,

My name is Jade. I have over 6 years of piano teaching experience with beginner to advanced level players of all ages! As a pianist and composer myself, it is such a joy for me to share the beauty of music with more people! Over the years, I have developed a curriculum that will allow beginners to learn music notation, theory and be able to play songs within no time! But of course, if you like to play by ear, no problem! All lessons will be customized so each student can learn at his/her own pace.
When pursuing my Master's degree in Music Ed, I learned a lot about working with younger students. I know exactly how to keep their attentions to the class and guide them to practice willingly.
For adult learners, if you just want to learn a particular song, or need a little boost for college piano tests, I can help you too! I'm bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese, so lessons could be given in both :)

Are you ready for the adventure? Let's get started!
