My experience in playing and teaching piano has always been from a performance perspective. I can read sheet music like any other but I emphasize on playing by ear and using a music theory system that will have you understanding before you are reading. I have nothing against sheet music but those who RELY on it don't make versatile musicians. That's a fact. With that being said, if you want to learn how to hear a song or create song by ear WITH understanding of every note and chord then I'm your guy. Let's take your performance to another level.

Had an excellent initial discussion with my instructor, Edwin, today. It was big picture but at the same time Edwin’s comments & suggestions gave me confidence in his command of the art (engineering, arrangement, composition & structure, and playing techniques), all the things I’m going to need help with to take my musical projects to another level.

Edwin is chill, flexible, and conveys a ton of relevant practice tips every lesson.

I've had 4 lessons with Edwin so far and have already made a lot of good progress, by learning songs and theory and strumming patterns and fingerpicking. Edwin has a genuine interest in my improvement.

6 Tools to Learn Piano at Home

Piano may be one of the toughest instruments to learn, because of all the multitasking required! You have to be able to read two different musical lines simultaneously, and keep track of what both your left and right hands are doing, all while your foot works the pedals. While most schools have classes to teach students band instruments or stringed instruments, few schools offer piano instruction. This means that most piano students learn how to play at home and in private piano lessons, instead …

Essential Scales for Jazz and Blues Piano Players

Curious about playing jazz or blues on the piano? Learn about some of the essential scales to learn in this guest post by Augustine, FL piano teacher Heather L...   Jazz music has been called the only truly American art form, born and raised on this very soil. A combination of the historical music forms of both African and Caribbean slaves and European immigrants, it may be the only way in which the "melting pot" objective was ever successful.
