About Fernando
Hello there! My name is Fernando, and I bring lots of profession playing and teaching experience to the table. I am an active musician in several local bands of various styles and genres, including jazz bands, Latin jazz bands, sax quartets, church groups, and musicals. I have played across southern California, several other states including Nevada (Reno Jazz Festival), Portugal, and Mexico.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education, from CSUF. I also hold a valid California Teaching Credential, which I completed through CSUF. I also hold an Associate of Arts degree in Music from Fullerton College. I am also currently working on my Master's Degree in Music Conducting.

I am the Instrumental and Choral Music Teacher at Buena Park Jr. High School, in the city of Buena Park, where I teach band, orchestra, percussion
, and choir.

I have also taught woodwinds for various high schools across southern California, as well as a marching/visual coach for marching bands.

I front and lead my own Christian Contemporary Band. We've recorded two albums, of which I have composed the original music/lyrics, and produced both albums. We are currently working on our third album.

I can teach everything from jazz, to classical, rock, blues, Latin genres (salsa, merengue, bolero, mambo, etc.), and even contemporary Christian music in both English and Spanish.

I mix all of these experiences and knowledge into a big melting pot, and apply it very efficiently and wisely so that my students can positively benefit from a wonderful and exciting real-world musical journey!

*** Lesson Details ***
I base my lessons around the student's needs for musical growth, and their own likes and dislikes. If there is something specific that the student wants to learn, as far as a style/genre or piece of music, I foster that and I help encourage musical growth and enjoyment around that.
I am constantly encouraging my students to listen to as much music as possible, or better yet, to watch and listen to as much live music as possible. I strongly believe that this nurtures musical growth and serves as a role model.
I am very patient and laid back, but I do expect the student to have fun while staying constant with individual practice. There is no substitution for perseverance, consistency, and hard work, but it doesn't mean that we will not have fun while we make music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
An upright Yamaha acoustic piano is available, along with a Korg and Kurzweil digital keyboards, music stands, computer music software for studying repertoire (music), a large collection/library of books containing scales, exercises, music, etc. I also can make copies or print something for you if necessary. A sound system is available for listening to something is necessary. Flute, saxophone, and clarinet students must provide their own instrument, but I can point you in the right direction in terms of acquiring an instrument either for purchase or rental from a local music retail store.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students must provide their own instrument, except piano if student comes to my home for lessons. Student must also provide books (as assigned), and metronome for practicing at home. I can carry with me things such as: saxophone, clarinet, flute, a portable music stand, metronome/tunes, pencil, paper, and any other book(s) or materials as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach classical, jazz/contemporary, funk, latin, blues, contemporary Christian, improvisation and music theory at very advanced levels.

As an accomplished performer, and piano instructor with 20+ years experience, second generation educator, mother of a six year old boy and mentor to over 100 piano students, I know all the ins and outs when it comes to instilling a lifelong passion for this beautiful instrument.

My record shows fast results with my students, no matter which direction they decide to go with their training. I prepare students for competitions, Certificate of Merit, or simply to have them play their favorite songs just for fun. I hold annual recitals for all of my students.

I believe in students really enjoying their lessons, and with me, they always look forward to coming back for more. I'm very versatile in many styles and genres, and knowledgeable about all the piano teaching methods on the market, and by using this knowledge I create an individual approach to each of my students.

About Oksana
Hi!

I have taught piano for about 20 years, with great success. Some of my students are as young as 3 years old, some are in their 70s, and everything in between. I love to teach piano and Russian Language, it gives me great joy and personal satisfaction. I've traveled the world in concert, but after having my child, I have settled in Beverly Hills, CA where I perform for and teach many celebrities and their children.

I am very patient, caring and encouraging in my teaching approach.

I hope to hear from you soon, and to have you among my many happy students.

Oksana.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Musical and Education Background

I studied piano since the age of five. At nine I won my first international pian
o competition. I attended Saint Petersburg College and Florida State University where I graduated with honors in piano performance in 2001.

After graduating I embarked fully on my musical journey - since then, my music has touched many people around the world, including members of U.S. Troops and U.N. Officials throughout Asia and Europe. In 2003, I became the first Russian-American female pianist to travel overseas to entertain the U.S. Troops. I embarked on two world tours on behalf of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department (MWR) of the U.S. Navy.

I then continued on a solo tour to entertain the U.S. Troops in September 2003, which brought me to the countries of Italy, Spain, and Greece. In February 2004, I went to Asia, where I performed for troops in Guam, Korea, Japan, Okinawa, and Singapore with Navy MWR. Upon completion of my performance tours, I moved to Los Angeles, California.

My move to Los Angeles brought me to the heart of the Hollywood elite, as I was the weekly performer at the legendary Polo Lounge in The Beverly Hills Hotel from 2006 until 2012. Due to my interactions with individuals in the likes of Kardashian family, the Osbourne family, Mel Gibson, Sir Elton John, among others, I now continue to be in demand for private and charitable events. To date, I recorded eight CDs of original, classical, and popular music.

My “Free Floating” album won the “2010 Best Classical Album of the Year” on Solo Piano.com. In addition, I have collaborated with other international music artists for recordings, and my original compositions have been sought after by highly-regarded individuals.

As a music teacher, I provide students of all ages a means for artistic outlet. Teaching makes me feel more complete as an artist and more accomplished as an individual. Sharing the gift of music is my primary mission in life.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A native of Barnaul in Siberia, Russia, and alumna of the College of Music at Florida State University, Oksana currently resides in Beverly Hills with her family. She continues to dedicate much of her time, music, and sales of CDs to charitable causes, including environmental concerns through Cool Green Fashion for Forests and children with cleft palate through Smile Train.

*** Lesson Details ***
I customize my teaching approach to each individual student. Having taught for 20+ years has taught me that every student learns differently - some do well with an easy approach, others with a more firm approach, while others with something in between.

I analyze each student's learning patterns, and structure their lessons in a way that gets the best results in the shortest time. I also have recitals so that my students can showcase what they have learned.

I am very patient, and also have experience teaching children with special needs. I aim at being not only the best teacher, but also a mentor to my students.

I prepare my students for Certificate of Merit and Competitions.
I'm also a proud member of Music Teachers of California.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Baby Grand Piano, full size and mid-size keyboard, four acoustic guitars.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, pop, broadway, musicals, rock, new age.

Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

Thomas has studied piano for 15 years, and continues to play regularly. His education has included courses specifically on musical instruction methodologies, and he has been trained as a pianist at the collegiate level.

About Thomas
No one ever regrets learning an instrument… yet many grow old wishing they had taken music lessons! A talent they’ll be able to develop their entire life, your children will thank you for giving them the chance to learn music. And bonus points for you: after just a couple years, you’ll have free entertainment every Christmas!

Or maybe YOU’RE the one that wishes to learn! It is never too late to begin learning an instrument. Yes, I'm trying to get you to sign up for lessons, and yes I sincerely mean that. Everybody has the ability, and if you’re determined and interested, there’s nothing stopping us from achieving this very special goal. (Interested in learning to compose? Scroll to the bottom to learn more.)

Everybody learns differently, and everybody likes different things. Whether it’s improvising or singing alongside a song you
love or reading through a classical concerto, I’ll help prepare you or your child to tackle a wide variety of styles, without missing out on any of the basics that turn good players into phenomenal musicians. We all know it’s not about being the best. It’s about having fun, and playing music well is definitely fun.

Practice makes perfect! Learning an instrument helps build self-confidence and discipline. If your child’s bored, distracted, or just needs a constructive hobby, music is a great place to get them interested in something that will help them feel better about themselves, and the effects will be felt across everything else they do, through better studying habits to a more patient, diligent work ethic.

It’s also relaxing! Stressed about work? Need an escape? Maybe you want to sound like [insert piano player here]. Everybody has the power to learn an instrument. Seriously, there’s no such thing as “talent.” Just start lessons and get practicing! It really is that simple, and I’ll guide you through every step of the way.

I have a diverse background teaching students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to retirees alike, customizing what we learn to the individual student. We’ll learn how to read music just as easily as you read words; improvise and compose music of our own; and feel good playing any style: classical, jazz, rock, and all. My experience as a working musician in films, musical theater, and pop music, as well as classical concert music, allows me to appreciate and teach styles that many other instructors overlook, and I know full well that learning an instrument is not about becoming a professional; it’s about being able to connect to others or oneself through music… and also to just have fun! There’s no need to learn music we don’t like! It’s not about stuffing Beethoven into your kids’ ears… we just want to make music, be that Beethoven or Billy Joel.

Music lasts a lifetime. I know that’s a terrible cliché, but it’s true, and few other skills can claim that. I don’t want to sugarcoat it: it takes time to learn an instrument. It takes practice, and sometimes it’s frustrating. But the results are well worth it, and like a snowball rolling down a hill, the longer you do it, the faster you get… or something like that. There’s a legitimate analogy in there somewhere.

Now get out there and make some music! But start by signing up for lessons. I can’t wait to get started!

---

“What’s that chord?” “Why does all my music sound the same?” “How do I fix this voicing?” “I just can’t get it out of my head!” …sound familiar? You’ve probably hit a rut. Or maybe you’re just starting out. Either way, you want your music to sound new, exciting, and to come out exactly how you hear it in your head. Yes… you CAN learn to compose music, you CAN learn to be more creative, and you CAN learn to share your sound with the world.

Film music, classical, jazz… whatever your interest, all music comes from the same place, and by learning a handful of basic concepts, you can apply these to whatever style you’re trying to write. Learning to emulate another musician involves knowing what they’re doing. Learning to create a groundbreaking sound requires that you know what’s already been done, and how to achieve it. Step by step, we’ll work our way there.

We’ll learn how to write cool, interesting chord progressions, how to write beautiful melodies, and how to voice chords. We’ll learn how to control the mood of our music, from making it sound relaxed to adding tension wherever we want. Maybe you’re trying to write for an orchestra, or just a small band. By learning the basics, you can then easily break away from what’s been done and come up with something truly new… the goal of any aspiring composer!

We just had our first lesson and it couldn't have gone better. I have an 8 year old son with pretty severe ADD and Ryan could not have been more patient and kind with him, following him from one room to the next while teaching him. It's now three hours after the lesson and he has not put the clarinet down. He has been practicing all 6 notes that Ryan taught him. 😬

Ryan is teaching beginning piano to my 8 y.o. son, who's ADHD-squirrely and demands a mountain of patience from any teacher. Ryan is unflappable. He breaks up the lesson with different activities. First he'll teach a new piece, then sets aside the book to play a bass groove that my son can improvise freely over, then does something else again. Knows music inside and out and backwards and forwards, and the low-key, spontaneous approach works great for us.

Music is very important to me. I want my students to be inspired and learn. My students have been accepted into the top conservatories and universities in the United States. My students have also won major vocal competitions as well as film auditions that include singing. The teaching styles offered in my studio include classical, jazz, musical theater and pop. My teaching philosophy is that the journey to reach the height of technique and professionalism is how the student discovers themselves and their unique voice. I provide the student with the information necessary to guide them along the way. Singing is very personal and students who learn to sing tend to become very vulnerable during the process. Therefore, I believe in creating a safe and enthusiastic environment for my students to explore their creative selves. Enabling a singer to access their inner expression allows them to grow as a singer/artist and a person.
