About Taryn
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, I have been writing songs since I learned to sing.
At a young age I began to play piano and violin, training in both the classical and pop genres.
I have been teaching piano lessons since I was 15 years old, when my own teacher had taken on more students than she could handle. Over the years, I have developed a passion and dedication for teaching music. I love to watch my students grow, and am elated to see the pleasure it brings to their own lives. Music is truly the universal language, and everyone should learn to speak it, in whatever form they desire. I am adept at finding my students weaknesses, and making it their strengths.
After graduating college, I relocated to Brooklyn, where I opened my own private music studio, "Taryn's Melodies." I formed my own band, and played violin f
or The Anthony Mulcahy Band, where we opened for acts such as Glen Hansard and Mark Geary. In 2012, I was a featured artist at the Gealach Gorm Songwriter Festival in Kill, Ireland. I began working for Forbes Music Company in NY as a piano, violin, guitar, and vocal instructor. My debut album, "Too Happy For Love", released in February 2012, was acclaimed for "exhibiting a diverse and unique musical background, as well as a natural grasp of language and storytelling."

“I have been an educator and administrator for quite sometime, and am aware of the qualities that separate mediocre from good, and good from great. Taryn is unquestionably great. I am constantly evaluating teaching talent in private instruction, group instruction, and in public/ private school classrooms. It is not often that I find a teacher with Taryn’s ability, passion, personality, and commitment.”

-Forbes Music Company, NY

My philosophy is that every lesson should be personalized to what the student's goals are. Music affects each of us differently, and therefore should be taught uniquely to that individual. Whether you want to become the next Billy Joel or Mozart, I can get you playing the tunes that you love in no time! I think it's important that you still get the same fundamentals and theory no matter what genre you're interested in, so that one day you can write your own tunes! I take particular care to make sure you make it through blocks of weaknesses, and get you back on track to reach your practice goals. It's all about making you the musician you've always wanted to be!

*** Studio Equipment ***
SV-1 Korg Vintage Stage Piano-88 key, Acoustic Guitars, Behringer Piano & Vox amp, violin, Shure PS-58 mic, ProTools, Blue Recording Mic

*** Travel Equipment ***
My own violin and guitar

*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained musician with extensive experience in the pop/rock/contemporary genres, as well as jazz and folk music. I am a singer/songwriter, and love to encourage the students to express themselves through music.

I enjoy teaching students of all levels. I have a complete method for understanding popular songs as well as guitar solos and lead melodies. There is a simple and thorough method to understanding chord and scale theory. This will enable the student to learn the entire fretboard and improve technique in the process.

About Brian
I have been playing guitar for over 30 years and teaching for 25 years.
I've been featured in Guitar Player magazine (see attached pic). and my live experience includes concerts and tours with various bands (Champagne Francis, Scout), theater (Jersey Boys, Movin' Out, Josh Gad (Book of Mormon) and TV performances (Jay Leno, The Today Show).
I enjoy teaching both children and adults. I recommend children under 10 start on a fender squire mini electric guitar ($99)
For adults,
I am able to bring beginner and intermediate guitarists to an advanced level of playing and understanding songwriting, soloing and playing songs with good technique.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you along your path of learning music and guitar.
Thanks!

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lessons builds upon the previous. The first half of the
lesson is a review of material the student has covered; a "warm up"
The second half of the lesson is for learning a new song or guitar solo as well as chord theory (learning and understanding new songs / songwriting) and scale theory (learning and understanding how melodies and solos fit over chord progressions).
I recommend setting a baseline intention of practicing 15 minutes a day. If you stick to that every day you will improve on the guitar and be playing music very soon!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Fender guitar mini for ages 5-9.
Fender guitar (standard) 9-adult.
Fender Pro Reverb amp.
Chairs, Music Stand, Blank Sheet music, Books
Cables, picks etc.
No need to bring an instrument to the lesson!

Brian is professional, considerate and kind, could get you play any songs you pick super fast and complement lessons with necessary basic trainings. Has a variety of gears in his studio so no need for you to bring your own all the way there. Yes the charge is higher than many other tutors but for a smooth & enjoyable learning process it's always worth it. P.S. Brian could write down the music for guitar part accurately just by listening to the songs and immediately teach it to you! Highly recommend.

I've been playing guitar and creating music since I was 13 years old. Between playing for 16 years and teaching for 12, I have a lot of knowledge to pass on to my students. Whether you want to write your own music, read and transcribe music, learn to play your favorite songs or anything in between, I will help you reach your goals and become a more knowledgeable guitar player and musician.

About Jason
I grew up in Minnesota and started playing guitar when I was 13. Self-taught for three years, I developed a passion and love for music. Upon turning 16, I expanded my knowledge studying with a local guitarist, a musical genius in my opinion, who made a huge impact on my playing. In the fall of 2007 I relocated to Los Angeles to attend Musicians Institute for guitar performance. I graduated in 2009

Over the course of the last nine years I've been a part of six different live performing bands and currently work with my original band comprised entirely of Musicians Institute graduates, Delphian. Delphian can be seen and heard featured on screen in the Mike Judge film “Extract”. I study, perform and have vast knowledge in the styles of blues, classical, country, folk, jazz, metal and rock n' roll. Everyday as I continue to grow as a
teacher and musician, so does my love for the guitar. I very much enjoy sharing my knowledge and seeing each of my students progress and grow as musicians.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every lesson will be tailored exactly to what you want to learn. We can cover specific topics such as music theory, harmony and improvisation, but if you would prefer to just work on learning your favorite songs, that's precisely what we'll do. Let me know what you want to learn and it will be done. We'll monitor your progress to help reach your goals. Most importantly, we will have fun while learning!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic and electric guitars and basses, amps, cables, music stands, PC with QBase recording software

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide my own equipment. Guitar, amp, and cables. Students should have their own guitar and amp.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock and metal, but I love to teach other styles like classical guitar, blues, jazz, and country.

We started off with a different drum instructor who turned out to be very unreliable. I asked take lessons to provide me with someone with good reviews. Someone who is punctual and reliable, that's when we met Jason. Jason is a super amazing instructor who has incredible patience. My son Nathan has never had any musical education before. After taking lessons with Jason for about three months he has a vast knowledge in playing drums and reading music. Jason utilizes his time very productively during lessons with no rush. He even goes to the extent to recommend and suggest products that will help Nathan improve. He is very humble, sweet and trustworthy. My family is glad that he came along. Thank you Jason from all of us.

About Vic
My musical journey has taken me to some interesting places, challenged and motivated me to keep growing as a musician and teacher.....It hasn't always been easy and the challenges I faced as a professional musician and educator provided the foundation for my Book "Techniques In Applied Theory". With students' goals as the focus, all elements of music are taught in relation to their likes and dislikes. There's a lesson behind every Song. I like to think of myself as a "Tour Guide", pointing out the highlights as we go. I have three jobs: imparting new information and the lesser mentioned "Trainer" and "Mentor". Not every student is the same nor do they have the same needs. In that respect it's a Custom Lesson Program designed to get them where they want to go.

What I have learned has pushed my musical abilities forward and added confidence and a stronger desire to practice and push myself knowing "I can". Thanks Vic....I'll be around for 8 more years to take advantage of all you have to offer!

Any genre, all ages. Teaching for 20 years. I tailor each lesson to the needs/goals of every student.

For beginners, I can write easy versions of your favorite songs for you, while giving you a well balanced music education.

For singers, I can show you how to easily accompany yourself and sound like a pro without reading a note.

I can give you ideas for jamming, soloing, and writing songs while showing you music theory, or I can teach you riffs to your favorite songs!

Being a drummer as well I can show you how to play "in the pocket" with rhythmic precision when playing with a band or by yourself.

For children, I make lessons fun and varied with learning and musical games to keep them excited and engaged.

For everyone, I can teach you the most efficient ways to learn any musical skill based on experience and leading scientific books on learning, while keeping lessons fun!

About Mike
I've studied piano and other instruments for 30 years, have been teaching music for 20, and have been a full time professional musician and music teacher for 11 years.

As a musician who was raised on classical piano but has also spent his life playing in bands, jamming, and composing in several genres, I believe that a well-rounded musical education is not only practical, but that it brings out the most enjoyment in music.

I also believe in teaching students whatever they love whether it's classical, rock, pop, jazz, world music, or a mix of everything! The more they love it, the more they will practice, and in turn the more they will love how they have improved - a circle of awesomeness!

As a professional musician, I play over 130 shows a year throughout North America as lead singer-guitarist for Celtic Rock group The Whiskeydicks, a
s the touring pianist for classical crossover group Vivace, as a solo singer-guitarist-pianist, and as the lead singer-guitarist-pianist-composer for my own symphonic-rock-fusion group, The Living. I've also toured extensively in Europe as keyboardist and backing vocalist for singer-songwriter Melanie Dekker.

My compositions have been performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The Plastic Acid Orchestra, Turning Point Ensemble, Ad Mare Wind Quintet, Vivace, The Living, The Whiskeydicks and cellist-singer-songwriter Cris Derksen.

I have a B.Mus in Piano and Music Composition from The University of British Columbia. I'm an IVA Certified Level I Voice Instructor and have studied Vocals with John Henny, Jeffrey Skouson, Guy Babusek, and Spencer Welch; piano with Terence Dawson, David Vandereyk, and Ross Taggart; composition with Dorothy Chang, Keith Hamel, and Armanini; drums with Jay Deachman and Morgan Childs; bass with David Spidel; and accordion with Jelena Milojevic.

I've just moved to LA from Vancouver where I had about 40 students, so this is the time to sign up as I have room for new students for the first time in years!

A gifted musician and teacher, Mike makes learning to play the guitar (or piano) a fun journey. His enthusiasm is infectious, and his knowledge of multiple instruments and musical genres makes him a well-rounded instructor who can adapt to each child's interests and goals. I have been amazed at the progress my son has made this year on the guitar. He was even inspired to start vocal lessons half way through the year.

Mike Bell is an excellent musician and a great music teacher across numerous instruments. He has the ability to get kids motivated to practice and to have fun playing the music they enjoy. We especially love the concerts where all the students get to perform in front of an audience at a real live venue rather than a stuffy recital hall. Mike is definitely the coolest music teacher in town!

About Jonathan
Lifelong musician who loves sharing my knowledge of music with others wanting to learn. I grew up playing cello but made the switch to guitar in my teenage years. I've been playing guitar for 15 years now. And picked up mandolin, ukelele, bass, piano, and vocals along the way.

3+ years teaching experience, both private and band lessons.

I have a Bachelor's Degree from Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA and have studied with some of the great guitar/composition/music theory instructors in all of Los Angeles.

I also have 10 years of experience with audio engineering and mixing. I primarily work in Logic Pro these days, but am comfortable with Pro Tools, Ableton, and Reason.

I teach music the way it was taught to me, and I had in my opinion some of the best teachers in the world.

I like to start every student with a unique approach to their individual playing style. I work closely with the student from the first minute of the first lesson, first simply getting to know the student's comfort level with material, playing style, and proficiency level. From there I go into specific topics that need improvement - for some students, this might be basic techniques, and for others may be advanced concepts. I like to walk the line between nurturing and tough love - I think that the best teacher is the experience of stepping outside of your comfort zone, with someone there to point you in the right direction to walk.

About Zack
Hi everyone! My name is Zack and I'm a guitar and violin instructor hailing from Chicago, IL, and currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. I’ve been playing violin since age 9 and guitar since age 10, gaining experience ever since playing live and in the studio, in bands and as a freelance artist. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2015 with a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance and now play in a metal band and pursue a freelance career. As a young student, I spent many years as a member of Midwest Young Artists, performing and studying classical music with Dr. Allen Dennis and jazz guitar with the renowned Frank Portelese, playing venues such as the Harris Theater in Chicago. I toured Greece and Peru playing violin, and studied classical performance with Vadim Mazo of Illinois Wesleyan University in Prague at Ameropa ’06. I was
a violin student of Gail Lilja-Kirkeeng from a young age, and was taught guitar by Rex Carroll of christian heavy metal band, Whitecross, and later when on to study rock and metal guitar with Joe Stump and Jon Finn at Berklee College of Music. I have opened for acts such as Five Finger Death Punch and Rob Zombie, and even accompanied Dream Theater onstage as the principal second violinist for their live DVD release, Breaking the Fourth Wall. My musical background is mostly based in classical music on violin, and rock music on guitar, although I consider myself very well versed in many different styles. Topics I generally like to begin new students with are scales and modes and how to apply them, basic posture and correct pick/bow technique and left hand placement, and the note names as they apply to the instrument and basic sight reading. I firmly believe that every student is unique with different styles, voices, and goals and that any lesson plan should reflect that. Whatever you want to learn, I’m here to help!
