I like to take pride in making my students feel secure and knowing and seeing the improvement they make within each session. I will be handing out a materials list prior to our lessons. Most students see a huge leap in drawing within the the first lesson! Class starts out usually with me giving a 1 hour demonstration on what I expect them to do as I cover and explain my entire process and thought and calculations that goes into drawing and painting. For the rest of the class I will be besides the student as they work giving them one on one pointers and as much help and explanation as they need in order to improve. Students start out with learning how to look and draw what they observe accurately by first working on simple geometric shapes such as spheres, cubes. We then will move on to Cast studies and after a few months of studying we will start on figures and portraits.

Kai is an excellent instructor and has left a tramendious mark on me as both a student and an artist. Kai may be young, but he has knowledge beyond his years through skill and ambitiously being self taught he has been commended on nationally. Kai in the fall attended FACE and was recently awarded a certificate of excellence from The Portrait Society of America. I very grateful to have worked with him and been walked through his very informative and beautiful demos. Crique from Kai is wonderful and facilitates vast and constructive improvement in skill level. Would highly recommend Kai!

Kai is a masterful painting instructor who is immensely skilled with his craft. His philosophy in painting is very inspiring, and has long stayed with me in my career as an artist. Unlike professors in art colleges, Kai gives informative demos, and in all honesty has taught me more technical skills than my art college (and most other art colleges) did alone. I would definitely recommend Kai to any artist/painter (both new and experienced) out there, he’s both professional and approachable as an instructor.

I'm a believer in classical education so Kai was a perfect match as a teacher. Watching his demonstrations I visually register the method, and then the feedback I get on my drawings points me where I am lacking. I had all these ideas I wanted to draw/paint, but I couldn't form the correct shapes. I still have a long way to go to make those pieces but as van Gogh said "So that what used to seem to me to be desperately impossible is now gradually becoming possible". I guarantee you, learning realistic drawing will fuel your creativity even more.
Kai is an interactive teacher, so you will also hear many great stories and the names of many great artists that you can explore.

Learning to draw is the best foundation for any artist. I teach my students through various techniques and assignments to understand form and spatial relationships. This tool is what many artists refer to as the ability to "see." This will not only improve your accuracy but your overall skills as an artist in other medias also.

About Sondra
Hello future student :) My name is Sondra and I would love to help you achieve your painting goals. I have a wide range of skills, from abstraction to realism and many hues in between. I received my Bachelor's in Fine Arts from The Oregon College of Art and Craft, a school that gave me background in modern, conceptual art. I also learned and revered techniques from the old Masters, such as Rembrandt, who have a classic, timeless perspective on painting. I've heard it said that it takes 10,000 hours to become a pro, which is why I give my students a painting assignment from our very first lesson. I will get you started wherever you are in your level of experience. I'll help you learn to paint what you're looking at as well as develop your own sense of style when painting expressively. I have a great eye for color and mixing and my students
have felt this was a particular advantage of learning from me. I'd love to meet you and help you on your painting journey. So sign up with me today!

I am a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts (BSA) majoring in visual artists and continued my studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art. In my spare time, I've taught for the last 15 years. I've tutored actual BSA students. I love drawing. I love teaching art. It is an expression of an individual's personal journey.

The most fabulous thing about being an artist is that boundaries regarding creativity are non-existent. The artist is always in a state of learning. Art is a progressive practice that takes time to develop.

Materials are not included.

Drawing lessons will be assessed based on the individual's current abilities and their goals.

About Sharron
My resume includes graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts and continued studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art until I decided I didn’t want to be a “Starving Artist”. So, I graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources Management. My education also includes 27 graduate credits that were leading to a Master’s in Public Administration when I decided to discontinue that path. After twenty-five years in the public sector, I decided to revisit my passion for art in my spare time. As a youngster, I remember wanting to teach art in schools, but I did not want the restrictions that are present in the classrooms and more so today. All forms of art is a freeing practice that is practiced and developed over time.

Kathy is very patient in understanding areas that needs to be worked on. I didn't know anything about drawing but Kathy structured the curriculum in a way that worked best for me without being overwhelming. Starting from the technical aspects of drawing to the conceptual aspects such as mark making and what drawing meant in a fine art context, she has got you covered. She is very professional, kind and works with you to get the best out of you.

I can take you from a beginner drawer into an award-winning artist! I will help you pursue your passion along with developing the necessary skills of drawing. If you have never drawn before I can have you drawing circles with precision. If you are intermediate in drawing I can have you drawing with realism to enter art contests.

About Ricardo
I specialize in realism or realistic pencil drawing. I also draw with pen, which does not allow for mistakes to occur. I start with a blank sheet of paper that eventually develops into a finished piece of art that usually takes about 8 hours of straight drawing. I have won many art awards. I began drawing just like you from a private teacher although it was from a gallery owner for 8 years. I eventually attended Otis Art & Design in Los Angeles where I was told I drew like a senior within my first month in college. I am currently producing art pieces to enter into art galleries and sell prints online.

'DRAWING FOR ANIMATION' course:

With this course format I will personally guide students through all of the 66 exercises that can be found in my purpose designed textbook... 'The Animator's Sketchbook'.

This course will be taught to the level of a degree course subject and graded accordingly. (Although it should be emphasized that this is NOT a part of any college degree program and will therefore not offer transferable credits as a result!)

The course will introduce students to all the all core principles of animation, design and pre-production that a master animator OF ANY STYLE will need to create their own project. It will be entirely executed through timed 'gesture drawings', or other forms of 'drawing through observation'.

The bulk of the student work will be done in their own time, outside the online lessons - although a great deal of instruction and feedback will be completed within the booked teaching time.

To cover the entire book, with one-on-one ...

About Tony
I am a British Academy Award winning animator who has made over 200 TV Commercials, 2 TV Specials, several Short Films, and ‘The Pink Panther Strikes Again’ movie titles at the beginning of my career. From the outset I was personally taught by some of the most amazing master animators ever - Ken Harris ('Bugs Bunny' and 'Roadrunner' for Warner Brothers), Art Babbit ('Pinocchio' and 'Fantasia' for Disney) and Richard Williams (3 times Oscar winner). I later successfully ran my own award-winning London animation studio for 20 years, before moving to the States in 1998 to live and teach. In the USA I have taught at the highest college level for over 14 years, when I also became author of several respected books on animation, including - 'Animation from Pencils to Pixels', 'How To Make Animated Films', 'The Animator's Notebook' and 'The Anima
tor's Sketchbook'. Animation schools and colleges around the world use my books. My own master animator reputation & expertise has been developed through traditional, hand-drawn (2D) animation for the film industry. However, I have since developed a whole range of teaching techniques that will help students of ALL forms of animation, whether its for the Film, Games, TV or the Web industries. The ‘core principles of movement’ are essential for all kinds of animation, whether it be 2D, 3D, Claymation, Stop-frame or any other kind. So I now focus less on technology and software, and more on the core principles of movement through ‘gesture drawing from observation’ and other means. In this way my students do not need to purchase extremely expensive equipment or software, they often need little more than a pencil, eraser and a sketchbook – with a lot of their own dedication they need to bring to the party. I am also insistent that students of animation also learn about fundamental design, layout, film structure and storyboarding - as all these are all essential to all great, animation. So I hope you will join me and become yet another of my successful students who are currently working in the animated film and/or video game fields today.

I’ve been teaching for a year and welcome students of all levels! My lessons are all about training your eye and mastering the foundational elements of art so you can draw anything from life our you imagine. I bring lots of practical techniques and old school methods introduced in a modern way that takes into account the interest of my students and keeps the learning fresh and fun.

At all of my lessons I introduce the works of an established modern or classical artist that either exemplifies the lesson of the day or is someone whose work or life story I think my student might find interesting. We don’t just learn how to draw or paint but also learn how to talk about art and make it more a part of your everyday life.

About David
I have a bachelors degree in printmaking and oil painting and spent some time in Florence Italy studying painting and drawing through the high renaissance masters. Currently I draw and paint in my spare time. I love teaching art as a way to connect with other artist and creative people who like talking about and creating art.

Through introducing or reviewing the fundamental principles in art and applying those to the lessons and exercises I assign for after class hours, you’ll see yourself improve week after week and gain more confidence in your artistic ability. I create a custom syllabus for you to review and work in things you’d like to try, certain mediums or subject matter to make it more appealing to you.

Making art should be fun and restorative! There’s a reason all of Bob Ross’s trees and clouds were so happy! Often times my s
tudents and I will have class in a park on a nice day or at museum.
