I teach students of all abilities to play and love the violin.

About Evan

I have over 25 years of experience in violin and have been teaching for over 10 years. I studied violin through the collegiate level, and my teachers included a former concertmaster of the NY Philharmonic. I work with students of all abilities, emphasizing both technical skills and musicality.

Evan's a fantastic teacher and I can't recommend him enough. I was a professionally trained pianist who was also badly taught some violin on the side and although I've been out of practice for years, Evan has gotten me back up to speed with my musical abilities in such a short amount of time. I've cycled through a number of music instructors in the past and Evan is the most patient teacher I've ever had. I get easily frustrated and he helps me work through the areas I get stuck on regardless of how many tries it takes. It's very apparent through his teaching that appreciation of the music is a priority. He's also flexible about rescheduling and cancellations, and I've enjoyed my lessons so much that finding the personal motivation to stay on top of my progress is never an issue when something comes up and a class has to be cancelled or postponed. Evan is both a superb musician and instructor and given a lot of my bad experiences in the music sphere in the past, he's done an amazing job of helping restore my appreciation and love for the art.

Evan is a very gifted teacher. Since I started beginner lessons with him a few months ago, he has been able to teach me the complex techniques required for proper playing quickly and effectively while advancing my knowledge of music theory with his calm and encouraging teaching methods. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in lessons!
Eric
All-around wonderful violin teacher! Evan has always been encouraging (and patient!) and made every lesson an enjoyable experience. I've decided to pick up the violin after a very long hiatus and at almost 30 years old - Evan provided a great game plan for me to begin reading music again as well as valuable exercises to improve my form. I'm looking forward to keeping up my violin studies with Evan and know that I've enjoyed my time (and improved my playing ability!) because of his instruction and guidance. I'd highly recommend Evan to any player - young or old - looking to pick up violin for the first time or to further hone their musical abilities.

It is important to have teacher, student, and parents work together to see the accomplishments happen in the future. I make the lessons meaningful, so that my student can retain the information and practice effectively at home. My ultimate goal is to have my student think critically and listen carefully, so that they can become their own teacher.

About Richard

I started playing the violin when I was 12 years old. Some of my notable teachers include: Ricardo Cyncynates, Rochelle Abramson, Guido Lamell, and Tatiana Chulochnikova. I enjoyed playing in the summer music camp at Interlochen and Curtis Institute of Music Summerfest for Adults. I performed as a

"Today's lessons went very well. Alethia is well suited for the students and customizes each lesson to the individual needs of each student while focusing on the literature at hand. The students were happy. I did not give a 5 star rating because I did not get feed back from each of the students. I really like her style and demeanor. Thank you."

"Just finished our first violin lesson on-line and it was great! Krisztina's very nice and very patient! Already in one lesson I learned so much! Krisztina was able to explain technical concepts in a clear and simple way. She provided excellent examples and demonstrations on bow placement and finger/wrist relaxation (just to name a few things). It's really awesome to have a teacher with so much experience and musical ability. Also, she is kind and encouraging. I look forward to many more lessons!"

"Dan is fantastic. He is approachable, reliable, and speaks to my daughter (mature age 9) as an adult which encourages her to take responsibility for her instrument and practice habits. She is just beginning, but has already made great strides with the violin. I have no doubt she will be able to play with the orchestra in the next school year; and I think this will be a long successful teaching relationship."

What Are the Best Violin Brands for Beginners?

When you’re first starting to look for a violin brand, it's important to find a compromise between affordability and good quality. It’s not always smart to buy the cheapest model available, as not only is this likely to produce a poor sound and hamper any incentive to practice or progress, but it's likely to lose a lot of value on the resale market - it's worth bearing in mind that student models will be resold at some later date, whether you're moving onto something better, or to another in …
