I teach from the earliest beginner through adult. My violin students are currently performing for different schools and ensembles. When students are performing with orchestras, much time is spent working on that music as well as their regular music.
I have a degree and certification in violin and piano from the Boston Conservatory as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. I have had additional training and certification as a Suzuki teacher from The Suzuki Teacher Training Institute. I am a member of SAGWA-Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area as well as SAA-Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have played all around the world including the Vatican, White House, Paris, Russia, England and Wales as well as in Concert Halls such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. I have taken students with me to perform as well in these countries and also every major concert hall in the Washington, D.C. area. I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.
Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.
*** Lesson Details *** I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.
I have also started a toddler music appreciation program geared for the 1-4age range. The purpose of this program is to expose very young children to the fun of Music through instruments, songs and play.
*** Studio Equipment *** I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.
*** Travel Equipment *** When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.
*** Specialties *** Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras. At this point in time I am only accepting beginner to intermediate level students.

As an experienced Violin teacher I help students to teach themselves the violin, to understood that their playing only improves when they change habits. A bored or disinterested child simply won’t progress, and a great violin teacher knows how to communicate with creativity and clarity. I have proper knowledge of the violin’s mechanics, general musical and repertoire knowledge, skilled as a player, and strength as a communicator. I have a bachelor degree in string performance, and I’ve taught students from beginner to advance for more than 10 years, guided students participating in inter-school musical shows, competitions and different musical presentations – Fests and orchestras. I teach both Suzuki and traditional method depending on the level of student.
Melodies in your head and a song in your heart, but your voice isn't so great, or maybe it is. I can teach your to connect the physicality and express yourself with a Violin or Viola. (soprano or Alto). The tough part is learning hold to hold the violin properly. It takes a couple months to train the muscles a new stance. With my help your posture and breathing will become as one with the music It's not a myth, the violin is the most complex instrtument to learn. Having said that You will consider what joy it is to enjoy the music and dance. Comprehensive program with ear training and reading the music.

Music is the universal communicator, educator, healer, and conflict mediator. We naturally expose our children to music to incite awareness and stimulate self-motivational learning practices within. Music, as a hobby or passion, you will discover the connection to other practical disciplines,

Mr. Ray J is a great teacher with patience. My 13yrs old boy is an international student who doesn’t speak English very well and
only had chance to have 6 hours class during our trip to US. But my boy likes Mr. Ray’s class very much, we hope to come back to DC and learn from Ray again.

Miss Lisa is very nice, patient and encouraging! My daughter loves her!

Lisa is amazing at teaching. I was looking for singing lessons since a friend of mine asked to sing at her wedding and I am grateful I found Lisa. She has help me with the song, gave me vocal and breathing techniques to reach high tones and even fix the guitar tablatures to match my voice to play it at the wedding. I will keep taking more lessons!!
I do a variety of styles in music for the violin. I use whatever method (book or teaching style) is needed to teach what the student needs to learn. I have been teaching violin for 25 years. Depending on age, we will start in either Essential Elements or Suzuki. All beginners will start the bow after they can read the first 8 notes. All intermediates will be able to play 2 octave scales from 3 sharps to 3 flats as well as well into Wolfhart book 1. They will also be able to shift into third position cleanly and will be starting on vibrato. For Advanced players, we will be working on Concertos, sonatas, and partitas if they wish to go classical. IF they wish other styles, we will have started that in intermediate. All students will have an opportunity to go through the music development program, if they are interested.
I have been teaching private violin for over 20 years, and private viola/cello for about 10. I have taught in Charles and St. Mary's County Public schools. I am a member of American Strings Teacher's Association, National Association for Music Educators (Maryland Music Educators Association), and the Music Teachers National Association (Music Teachers Association of Charles County). As a teacher, I'm very student oriented. We move at your pace. The more you practice, the faster we move. I do encourage learning to read music, but I use multiple ways of teaching to reach my students. Everyone learns in a different way. My primary job is to see you achieve your goals in relation to your instrument. I also encourage that you take every opportunity to perform. There are many groups in the area that allow for different ages and styles of music
. I can help you understand what is going on behind the music and hopefully see what the composer was hoping to convey, if that is something you want to know. When I was a student I always wanted to know "why?". As a teacher, you will know why if I do.
*** Lesson Details *** I try to keep my lesson area as stress free as possible. It's OK to make mistakes in my studio. I would like you to bring a notebook to lessons as well as your music and instrument. I write as much as I can down because if you were like I was during lessons, I would forget everything I was supposed to be watching for after 3 days. Like I said above, we move at your pace. The more you practice, the faster we move. Questions are a good thing. It shows interest. But sometimes you just have to stop asking questions and just take the leap of faith. We start with note reading as well as proper form and the parts of the instrument. We also deal with general care. I will tune your instrument every time you come in for lessons until you learn how to tune it yourself. We will review the day before, I will check on what work you've done and then move onto the next song/ technique etc. After we learn how to pluck the first 8 notes, we start with scales and bowing.
After that we move through the "usual" routine. Scale, etude, song(s) or school test songs, audition requirements etc.
I try to keep the same routine because for some students it's easier for them to focus if they know the lesson is going to move in a familiar way. It's reassuring. After we become proficient in the basics, we move into whatever genre you would like to play, within reason. If you are in the school orchestra we will work towards you getting an A.
I would say I'm more laid back when you are not preparing for an audition. Auditions require a lot of work and I want you to do as close to perfect as possible. I become fairly demanding during that time.
In about 6 months, you can play almost any tune you can hear on the radio. Explaining where you could be gets fairly technical and I might as well be talking like Charlie Brown's teacher.
*** Studio Equipment *** at the B studio: music, music stand, stool, piano, laptop, tuner, metronome.
at home: music, music stands, chairs, computer, laptop, keyboard, microphone, tuner, metronome.
at the A studio: music stand, chairs, laptop, tuner, metronome.

The home studio is located in Charles County, MD.
*** Specialties *** I am familiar with Paul Rolland's work, Valerie Bobbett Gardner's Violin Virtuosity, as well as Guillespie's. I was brought up Suzuki but haven't been trained in Suzuki. I have taken classes on how to teach to a variety of students so I could hold a teaching license in the state. I do participate with (Canadian) The Royal Conservatory of Music Music Development. This is active in the US also.
Special note: If you are allergic to cats, you will want to take lessons at my other studio location, not at the home.
IF you are contacting me with questions, please include either take lessons or lessons in the subject area so I can find you faster. I get a lot of junk mail and it is easy for me to miss a note from you.
Ms Chris was great my daughter really enjoyed her first lesson. Ms Chris was easy to work with and made my daughter comfortable that she felt free to ask questions and make mistakes without worry. My daughter is looking forward to the next lesson.

If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable and patient strings teacher, you will love Mrs. Heins. Both of my sons have been taking lessons from Mrs. Heins for several years (one for viola and one for cello). They have learned so much under her instruction, such as earning All-County and All-State honors. They also practice their live performance skills twice a year during informal musical concerts. Mrs. Heins also offers participation in the Royal Conservatory Music Development program, which can earn your child credit for college. She is a gem and should you choose her, you won’t be disappointed.

My students build technical proficiency and musicianship through a variety of personalized exercises, etudes, and pieces that encourage their creativity and a love for all kinds of music. Most importantly, they have lots of fun!
I offer beginner to advanced violin lessons for all ages. I have gotten to perform in many different ensembles and styles. This allows me to adapt to students' interests. Having taught privately for over a decade now (has it really been that long?), I have developed many ways of explaining specific concepts since one student may understand it perfectly if explained differently than how another student grasped it. Teaching violin is one of my greatest loves because I get to constantly see students fall in love with music and violin.
Very comfortable to work with.. Considers the interests of the student..

Selena has been a wonderful instructor for our daughter. Her patience and ability to work with your children is admirable. Our daughter has really taken to her and the violin. We are looking forward to our future lessons, and plan to bring our younger daughter to her when she's a little older.
As a student of mine you can expect to improve your playing skills week to week. I can teach from the very first lesson on. Students will learn techniques to improve their playing and will play fun music. If you are interested in learning improvisation, I can help with that, too. I enjoy teaching violin, viola and cello. I am most passionate about teaching students to become independent, critical thinking musicians who will be able to rely on their own knowledge to learn new music as they go along. I stress music reading, ear training, and strong fundamentals in playing. I am very encouraging, love spreading my love of music.
I began playing violin in elementary school, and immediately knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My first words as a baby were lyrics because I sang before I spoke. I played violin until 11th grade when I fell in love with the sound of the viola. I studied music performance and music education in college and I have a bachelors degree in both. I have played professionally in orchestras, quartets, as a soloist, and in many rock and folk settings. I have even put my violin and viola through a distortion pedal and a wah wah pedal in heavy metal/punk music. I have over 17 years of teaching experience and am a licensed teacher in the state of virginia. I have taught in a classroom as well as privately, and have also taught students with autism. I’m a former student of Melissa’s. She is very patient and I learned very quickly under her direction. I’m happy to see her teaching again. I’m anxious to continue learning the cello with Melissa.

I have been taking lessons with Melissa since the end of February. She is an excellent teacher and I have learned so much already! She is encouraging and makes me want to come back week after week to learn more!
It is important to have teacher, student, and parents work together to see the accomplishments happen in the future. I make the lessons meaningful, so that my student can retain the information and practice effectively at home. My ultimate goal is to have my student think critically and listen carefully, so that they can become their own teacher.
I started playing the violin when I was 12 years old. After practicing the violin productively, I was able to join the Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra of CA. I played with the group for 5 years. I also joined other community orchestras such as: Bellflower Symphony, Los Angeles Valley College Symphony, Manassas Symphony, and Washington Sinfonietta. I visit Interlochen and Curtis Summerfest to play chamber music with other musicians. I like to share my knowledge and experience to my students. My top priority is to get my students to play beautifully with each bow strokes. My notable teachers include: Ricardo Cyncynates, Rochelle Abramson, and Guido Lamell.
Music is a universal language that should be integrated into our daily lives! Don't hesitate to contact me to schedule your violin lesson!

"At 40, violin is the first instrument I have ever learned, having taking lessons for seven months now with Autumn. Her clear instruction provides phenomen

No matter how much students may groan when it comes to scales, they are very important for all beginners to know, particularly for the violin. Almost all of your knowledge about playing the violin starts with learning how to play scales, from reading sheet music to better understanding the fingerings. Of course, it is not nearly as exciting as playing one of the songs you love, but practicing scales will give you a strong foundation that will help you progress and improve.
Violin scales are typ …
