Experienced bassist/pianist available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I started playing piano as a young child, and bass while in high school. I have been unable to put down either since! I structure my lessons around what students want to, while also helping them build a strong musical foundation. I teach electric bass, upright bass, piano, and other keyboard instruments (organ, synthesizer, etc.). The main genres I cover are rock, blues, pop, funk, and jazz, but am also capable of teaching classical, latin, folk, country, and many other styles. I utilize a number of texts in my lessons, including, but not limited to, method books by Simandl, Ray Brown, and Rufus Reid, an etude collection by John Pattitucci, and a latin method by Oscar Stagnaro. The following materials are available at my studio: amp, basses, cables, effect pedals, recording equipment, manuscript paper, and more. Piano lessons are conducted at the student's home. I picked up the bass during high school, and performed in the school's jazz ensemble, guitar ensemble, orchestra, symphonic band, and percussion ensemble. These groups help me establish foundational skills on both bass guitar and upright bass, and provided me with an understanding of the prevalence and diversity of bass in many types of music. In 2011, I began studying music at the University of Utah, and graduated in December 2014 with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. During that time, I was able to study under the best musicians in Utah, exploring numerous areas of music, including theory, history, composition, recording, performance technique, and many more. It was during this time that I established my private studio, as well as began teaching at the Granger School of Music in Park City, where I also help develop music courses for high school credit. I have had the pleasure of playing in many different bands and ensembles for over 10 years. During this time, I have played throughout Utah and surrounding states, embarked on a handful of tours, appeared on TV and radio, and participated in multiple recording projects. Recent projects include Hot House West, Crook & The Bluff, and Charles Ellsworth.

Kevin is amazing and will focus your lessons on your goals and musical interests. At the end of every lesson I feel like I have things to discover and explore, not things to repeat and memorize.

My 8 year old daughter has been taking lessons with Kevin for almost a year. She likes that the lessons are fun, Kevin taught her the Super Mario Brothers theme song, and I like that she is being challenged while also developing an appreciation for all types of music. Even though my daughter is taking guitar lessons, Kevin occasionally incorporates other instruments (piano, mandolin, ukulele) into her lessons. We both love this! Kevin is always on time and comes to each lesson with a planned agenda. He is also great to work with when rescheduling. We hope to continue our lessons with Kevin! He is awesome!

Kevin Schultz is an extremely qualified teacher of many instruments. I have taken Mandolin and Piano from him and is able to match his instruction to my way of learning. I have seen him perform with his band Electric Cathedral as well and was amazed at their talent. I would highly recommend lessons from Kevin Schultz.

    Crook & The Bluff

Crook & The Bluff is a western, psychedelic blues band based in Salt Lake City, UT. Through a skyline of amps, a labyrinth of pedals, and a rhythm section that looms on the horizon like that of an imminent lightning storm, this four piece creates a sound that is at times as colossal as the canyons their home state Utah is carved with, yet like the howling breeze in the twilight hours becomes as intimate as sharing a bottle of bourbon beside the fire. Their blend of psychedelia, blues, and folk coalesces into a singular, definitive feeling of the American West.
