I teach primarily individuals interested in learning bluegrass rhythm guitar. While such a style may sound easy, it is more complicated than it seems. Lester Flatt was one of the greatest rhythm guitar players to have ever graced the stage. Consequently, I attempt to replicate his phenomenal style which incorporates controlled complexity and subtlety to heighten the brightness of the rest of the band.

Hi! My name is Jeff and I love music--especially bluegrass! I've played guitar for 15 years and banjo for 12 years. I have experience teaching all ages of aspiring bluegrass musicians. Though I'm currently a doctoral student at Vanderbilt, I've spent the past two years teaching high school English. My passion is seeing joy in my students' faces when they finally master what they've worked so hard to achieve.

In addition to teaching banjo and guitar, I also offer tutoring for all of the ACT sections and the AP English Literature and Composition exam. As the English department chair at my school, I taught the only AP Lit section and also offered after-school ACT tutoring.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Wise at Earle High School, where he was employed as the 11th grade, 12th grade, and AP English teacher. From talking to students, it was obvious that they regarded him as a rigorous teacher that expected a lot from them. Mr. Wise constantly pushes students to exceed limitations they had previously seen themselves as having and is genuinely invested in the success of his students. While holding his students to a very high standard, Mr. Wise also makes lessons very enjoyable for his students by infusing them with his sense of humor and personality. Based on my own professional interactions with Mr. Wise and conversations with his former students, I highly recommend him as an instructor for any subject.
