I have had the great fortune to play original music in a group with Zephyr for the last year. His compositions are incredibly fun to play, and I feel that he worked on them with a very clear concept in mind. I've learned so much about my own musical aesthetic from working with him. I can imagine that he encourages students to find their unique approach to music as well.

Few lessons with Zeph at our place when we lived together and subsequently at my house. Zeph was patient and showed me lots about chord voicing. He both showed me progressions that highlighted the kinds of modification possible and helped me to include more variety in my own compositions. We'd play through a bit of my stuff first usually, then move in to more of the lesson. After working on that, we'd go back into something of mine with more focus and precision. Zeph was good at matching my skill level, and keeping the content and the focus consistent with what I could understand at the time. His knowledge of music theory was, at least for me, expansive enough that his answers and references ended up being very helpful. He introduced tone substitution, for instance, in a super easy to understand way.

All in all, great experiences over the last 5+ years and I'll definitely be working with him while I'm in California.

Zephyr is a kind, patient person, and has a deep understanding of the music system. As a performer, composer, and teacher myself, I understand that these qualities are important above all else for a teacher or player, and you won't find a better person in the LA area to help you learn how to play bass. He's a first call musician, and always one of my first choices if I need to hire somebody for a gig or to refer a student to. Electric, upright, Zephyr kills it on everything!

Zephyr is one of the most patient, articulate, and encouraging instructors I have studied with. As a visual artist, I have not had much music training in the past. Zephyr is incredibly knowledgable and is a terrific instructor for students at any age / skill level.

Zephyr has been now a part of my knowledge of composition. As a song writer/artist, i've hired Zephyr to help score and perform on many sessions for me.

I can't thank him enough for his
wisdom and instructional guidance in gaining a broader understanding for how to make some contemporary ideas work in my music.

Thank You Zephyr, Cheers!!!!

Zephyr was a fantastic, knowledgeable and charismatic teacher. I had the fortune of working with him at Plaza de la Raza through CalArts' Community Arts Partnership (CAP) program from September 2014- July 2015 with Community Arts Partnership Summer Arts (CAPSA).

During our lessons, Zephyr shared his comprehensive knowledge of bass guitar and music theory in a lax, no-pressure fashion. We typically started by playing on a blues or a tune that we knew and he would proceed to evaluate what I did well and what I could improve on. Because of this, I always felt comfortable working with him and felt more like a colleague than a student including when he led a small jazz combo during CAPSA when he taught us the John Coltrane tune "Impressions."

Overall, I highly recommend taking lessons with Zephyr. He is a funny, sweet, knowledgeable musician anybody would have the pleasure to work with.

Very detail oriented, meticulous provides a great lesson curve. Comfort with a teacher is key, and I feel comfortable asking about anything. The first few lessons have been great and I'm looking forward to having more!
