I started music when I was 5. My grandma, an amazing classical pianist, would put quarters on the backs of my hands as I played my first songs and if they didn't fall off, I could keep them. I started guitar when I was 12, and I've been teaching for 12+ years. I currently teach over 40 lessons a week through the MN School of Music and independently. I will create a lesson experience that is personalized for you, helping you to become the guitarist you want to be. I love working with: Kids (as young as 6): The most important thing for a child beginner is that music becomes a positive part of their life. I have many ways to teach kids the foundations of music and guitar while having fun at the same time. I want each to kid to be successful, which means balancing fun with structured, goal-oriented lessons. Your child will set goals each lesson and leave with a clear practice plan to succeed. Aspiring Songwriters: Songwriting is the main reason I play and teach music. The songwriter's goal is to communicate their feelings, thoughts, and imagery through their own musical language. I will help you build your language with music theory lessons, improvisational exercises, and sharing knowledge from my never-ending study of great songwriters. We can even record demos during lessons. Adults: Some of my favorite students are adults who decided to give it a shot. For one, adults learn faster and function better, and it's fun to watch them improve rapidly, play (and sometimes perform!) their favorite songs. Lessons will be held in my home recording studio next to the MIA.
