I've been lucky enough to study with some amazing teachers during my time at Eastman and Peabody and I'm excited to pass that experience on to you. I've performed across the U.S. as a percussionist, and have had my compositions performed both nationally and internationally from Texas to Japan by a number of wonderful ensembles. I bring my experience as a composer and performer to my work as a theory teacher. I love working with musicians from various walks of life to help them get a better grasp on theory as a practice that informs musical creation, interpretation, and theory for theory's sake! I work in a way that encourages creative thinking and analysis. Always fun, never stifling! If you're curious about my interests as a theorist; as an undergraduate at Eastman, I wrote a thesis that applied the work of Howard Hanson to develop a narrative around the motivic and harmonic development of the first movement of Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot lunaire, Op. 21. I have a specific interest in post 20th century analysis that exceeds the boundaries of set theory. I also love a good Shenkerian graph! A current project I'm very excited about is a northeast tour of new works written for hammered dulcimer, percussion, and voice (all for one player, that's me!) that will be premiered in collaboration with dancers from Peabody.
