    With a doctorate in music composition and a portfolio of works performed across various platforms, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my role as a music theory teacher. My years of teaching choir, AP music theory, Music Appreciation, and tutoring college-level music theory and aural skills have honed my ability to convey complex musical concepts in a clear and engaging manner.     I'm Dr. Tyler Hughes, a composer and choir director with a diverse portfolio ranging from small piano pieces to symphonies. My compositions span film, concert halls, theater, and experimental art projects. With five years of teaching experience in private, online, and classroom settings, my aim is to enhance your understanding of music and equip you to excel as a performer or composer. I offer music theory, aural skills, composition, and beginner to intermediate singing lessons. In theory, you'll delve into music analysis; aural skills will refine your listening abilities, and composition lessons will nurture your creativity. Tailored to your pace and proficiency, my lessons cater to ages 10 to 60. I look forward to sharing my passion for music and knowledge with you.

    Begun in 1920 as the Texas Band Teachers Association, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 10,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College. On behalf of its members and Texas schoolchildren, TMEA carefully monitors the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction in Texas. In addition to many member benefits, TMEA offers professional development opportunities for its members with Region workshops and especially with its annual Clinic/Convention. TMEA supports the future of music education by offering scholarships to music education majors and by sponsoring the Texas Future Music Educators, an organization through which high school students interested in careers in music education learn more about what to expect in their college education and future careers.
