Hello friends! Welcome, and thank you for visiting my profile. My name is Tom Ball, and I'm here to help you excel on your instrument by adapting to your personal learning style while also using tried-and-true methods developed over the course of my 10+ years teaching classical, jazz, and blues guitar, as well as mandolin and music theory. First things first: I'll want to understand your background and dominant learning styles so that we can communicate in a manner that is clear, concise and highly effective. Once we've gotten to know each other a bit and defined your primary goals on your instrument, I'll develop a lesson plan and system of evaluation to ensure that you're progressing at a satisfactory rate. A few important things: 1) Do not be deceived; freedom on your instrument requires discipline. You can indeed create anything that you wish, but having an idea or dream won't do you any good unless you have the requisite understanding of how to apply the proper tools to bring the idea into being. That's where practice comes in, which should be highly specific so that you can get the most out of your time. I'll help you with that. 2) That being said, while discipline and professionalism are absolutely necessary to get optimal results, it is always important to have fun and to learn something new every day. Therefore, lessons with me won't include tons of papers and homework and an air of misplaced academic superiority. We'll be highly specific and effective and have fun learning new things together in a laid-back, encouraging atmosphere.
