Tarsha began her study of music at the prestigious LaGuardia HS of the Performing Arts in NYC. There she was trained in Classical music and Theory. She then went on to Syracuse University to earn a Degree in Music where she majored in Voice and minored in Piano. Once Tarsha graduated, she continued to take private lessons while performing in pageants and talent shows around the NYC metro area such as "Amateur Night at the Apollo", and the "Ms. New York" pageant where she won the talent competition. Her biggest audition however, took place on the streets of Harlem U.S.A where an unafraid Tarsha approached world renowned rapper "Doug E. Fresh" and began to belt out a tune for him right there in the middle of the street! Doug E. wasted no time in signing Tarsha to his management co. and it wasn't long after that that Tarsha was signed by Tommy Boy records to record her first album. The album yielded the hit song,"Where I Wanna Be Boy" and set the stage for her next major move to Motown Records. It was at this time that Tarsha teamed up with other artists such as Busta Rhymes,Nas, Common, AZ, Big Pun, jazz legend Najee and Jahiem just to name a few. After touring and embarking upon a career in radio, Tarsha began teaching from her home. She had been hired by "Diddy" (Bad Boy Records) to come in and train some of his groups. She decided to share her knowledge of the music industry and to help train others to achieve their dreams. Tarsha believes there is an artist inside all of us and her desire is to bring it out and let it SHINE! The lessons are all about the student and their desires. Whether it be training for an audition, preparing for a performance or simply training one's voice, the students needs will always come first. She takes great strides to ensure that the students have fun while working. Music should always be fun! Each student will be given their own specific type of lesson depending on their goal, but it will be fun, easy to learn and rewarding!! *** Lesson Details *** Each lesson will begin with stretching exercises and vocalizes. We will then move onto the chosen work of that day. We will break down the music first lyrically so that the student understands what their repertoire means and will gradually incorporate performance techniques. Each lesson will end with a recap of that days session and at home study will be given. *** Studio Equipment *** Piano *** Travel Equipment *** I provide a keyboard and a tape recorder. They should provide any manuals or specific recordings we work on. *** Specialties *** I specialize in R&B. I myself was an R&B singer from Motown Records (1996-2000) so i am familiar with the differences between singing for recordings and live singing. I have also toured so I am quite knowledgeable in maintaining one's voice while on the road. I have performed and taught how to sing with live bands as well as with electronic accompaniment.
