Beginner, Intermediate, AdvancedI have a minor in music from Brigham Young University and have played in many different orchestras. I was All State in orchestra for 4 years during high school, and was concertmaster of the Brigham Young Symphony Orchestra. I also played with the Bradley University orchestra in Peoria, IL.
I am very patient and pay close attention to see what works best for each individual student. I love to have students try music from different styles, and also teach basic music theory and ear training skills.
If a student desires, I also like to get them involved in group playing opportunities, and hold periodic performance recitals.
I offer in person or video lessons, whichever you prefer.
About Susan S.
Hello! I've been teaching violin and piano for 10+ years to students of all ages. I have played violin for 41 years and piano for 43 years. I am very patient and flexible. I like to pay attention and see what kind of things work best for each student.
I love to have students try music from different styles, and I also teach basic music theory and ear training skills. I offer in person (Roy, UT area) or online lessons.
In violin, I love helping beginners learn about the fun world of music, and helping intermediate/advanced students hone their skills. I was in the Iowa All State Orchestra for 4 years, and have played in many other orchestras, including the Brigham Young Symphony orchestra as concertmaster, and for the Bradley University Orchestra in Peoria, IL.
I teach piano for beginners/intermediate level. The way I teach, a student can be playing songs very quickly, even while working on basic skills and learning how to read music. I love opening up the world of the keyboard and how to match it to what you see on the music!
I started playing piano at age 3, and violin at age 5. My family was very musical- we all played instruments and sang. I got my minor in music and have taught on and off ever since.
One of my favorite projects is when my students and some community friends form a string group that plays for town events. We have played fiddle music during the summer, and Christmas music in winter. It's so much fun!
Don't be afraid to try out a new instrument, or revive one you have played before. People of all ages and experience levels can learn to play. Pick a teacher that seems to fit what you're looking for, and ask for a sample lesson with them. You will soon see if you are a good fit with each other.
