I emphasize classical piano, and also teach pop and jazz, but in a classical style.  This means learning from the printed music, with a goal of eliminating the score and playing for memory for the most positive way to discover the emotional intent of the composer - as expressed by the performer. I teach basic harmony too, so students will have the foundation for playing by ear, starting with simple melodies and chord progressions.  I teach pieces that are suitable for a students level, so they will always have something ready to play just in case the opportunity arises.  A friend or neighbor might say, "Let's hear you play something."  You will have something ready!  Even simple pieces from elementary learning materials can provide a 'WOW' factor for your audience.  I'll teach you how to do it!

I have been teaching and performing for many years.  I take special care to go at the student's pace and always encourage students to pick the pieces they want to play.  I am very patient, and really enjoy sharing my love of piano and classical music with others.
