Stephen Flinn is a true professional who has been teaching for over three decades and has given over 20,00 drum lessons, and facilitated over 2,000 special needs percussion ensemble classes. Between 2010- 2015 he taught at Lanterman High School in Los Angeles, which serves teens with intellectual and physical differences. The Los Angeles Unified School District awarded Stephen a Certificate of Appreciation for his work at the school. Currently based in Phoenix, AZ, he is offering online lessons (Skype/Zoom/FaceTime) to special needs students of all diagnosis, as well as facilitating ensembles for several local autism organizations, such as First Place, Breakthrough Academy, Hope Academy for Autism, One Step Beyond Inc.,Tungland Corporation, Arizona Developmental Services, Ideal Care. He has been featured in many international publications and has written articles for Modern Drummer and Downbeat magazines. In addition, he recently released his first book, Contemporary Urban Percussion, which he uses as the template for his team building company, Rocking Buckets. In addition to being a sought after teacher, he has appeared on over 30 commercial releases of creative music and has toured extensively throughout Europe, Japan, and the United States. He is a former student of Ed Shaughnessy, Alan Dawson, Milford Graves, Alphonse Mouzon,Bob Moses, Pete Magadini, Kenwood Dennard, William Winnant, and Sonship Theus, as well as several African and South Indian Classical drummers.
