“Life is like a piano.......What you get out of it depends on how you play it.” ~ I am a classically trained pianist who will bring joy and excitement to young students as they learn the piano and share in the optimal experience of "feeling" the music. I prefer younger students as I have mastered the art of making lessons fun, exciting, and something children will look forward to rather than dread. I have been playing for 35 years and teaching family and friends children for 20 years. I graduated 1987 from a performing arts high school in Georgetown, Wash., DC and continued to study privately as an adult. By age 15, I started my own performance trio (myself and two vocalists) who were requested frequently to perform in and around the DMV area. I continue to play for various events however my passion is in teaching young people piano.......I am in awe watching them notice their own improvement by the minute.

I've known Sonja Hamilton for over 40 years and during this time I have found her to be an exceptional pianist. I have requested her to perform for at least 6 events in my honor. Also, she is smart, kind, patient and love children. I believe Sonja would make a wonderful Piano Teacher. She raised two beautiful children of her own. Sincerely...Cheryl Willis

Sonja is the best paino instructor ever. She made me feel so comfortable my first encounter with her. She is very patient and takes her time with all of her clients. I can not wait for my next session. I made the right choice when choosing Sonja Hamilton.

    Experience

    Piano Teacher

    Jan, 1996 - Present

    Private Studio

I have been instructing private piano lessons to family members and friends children of all ages for the past 20 years. Making lessons fun and memorable is key. I remember dreading the "Saturday morning piano lesson" from ages 8 - 14. Therefore my goal has been to make lessons exciting and full of new learning experiences. Lessons and practice make perfect, if its fun, children will be eager to play more and more.
