I currently teach private lessons to children and adults of all ages. I have taught in public and private schools from elementary to high school orchestra and band. I hold a BS in Music Therapy and an MS in Music Education. In my first teaching experience the school I was in did not have an instrumental program. The school district was in a very poor underprivileged area and there wasn't any money in the budget for instruments. I felt so badly for these students that they could not experience the joys of learning a musical instrument. I felt I needed to do something to help these students so I contacted everyone I could and persuaded individuals and businesses to donate money so this school could have its first instrumental program. I was successful in raising the funds and starting the instrumental program. I tell this story to share with you my strong feelings and beliefs in teaching music. I feel that every child should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument of their choosing. I started on the violin when I was nine years old and developed a life-long love and appreciation of music.
