Singing with Shannon B.

Hello! My name is Shannon and I absolutely love music! Teaching is a huge passion of mine along with performing and sharing music in service opportunities. I am the oldest of 4 children with 2 awesome parents and I come from a rich heritage of music, theatre, performing and culture. I am married to an amazing man and we have two fur-babies. I am very involved in leadership with my church and love serving the Lord and I am honored to be entrusted with this gift of music to share. I have been teaching Voice and beginning piano for the past 14 years and I have loved every minute of it. I have worked with students in Voice ranging from 11-Adults, each with different goals, dreams and songs. With piano students, I work with ages 6-Adult, and again, each comes with their own ideas, goals, and songs to work on. I have also done small group singing classes for 8-10 year olds who are just a bit too young for the more intensive private vocal training, as well as for teenagers who just love performing in a group setting and supporting and being supported by each other. I don't do recitals. We don't call them that. I host open mics and my students are all invited to participate. I always participate to be a good example to my students, be vulnerable and support them and I usually invite other professional musicians to share music as well. They appreciate the opportunity to practice their craft and they are a wonderful inspiration to the younger musicians who watch them. I am a process/experiential/development -based teacher. I taught Kindermusik for many years in California, then continued in Africa for 3 years and I now teach two young children's classes from my private studio...one for 3.5/4 year olds and one for 5 year olds. These are an absolute blast! Because of the healing I have personally experienced through music and the way I have seen it heal and help others, I am working towards my Masters in Music Therapy. Whenever I host a concert, it almost always turns into a benefit. Even when I charge an entrance fee, I still love highlighting the needs in the community or in other parts of the world that we can contribute to. So, when you work with me, these are things that can be a part of your experience and will be if you would like. But, at the same time, if a student prefers that music lessons are just a quiet and personal thing for themselves to enjoy, process, decompress from the world with, I welcome that completely and that's the magic that happens.
