Welcome to my profile! I'm a violinist, composer, but first and foremost I'm a teacher. I love to get under the hood to see how music works, and that's what I want to share with you. My students should expect to take a deep dive into the music they're studying. I don't just want to teach you how to play a piece, I want to use our pieces to teach you certain techniques and ideas that will allow you to play any piece you want. For students of any level, I always emphasize the fundamentals: technique, intonation, harmony, form, and fun! A little about me: I've played violin for as long as I can remember, and started writing music when I was eleven years old. I studied classical violin with William Barbini, and I studied composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Elinor Armer. In addition to classical music, I have also studied - and currently teach - traditional Scottish fiddle, swing fiddle (aka manouche), Scandinavian folk, and French Baroque music. In addition to my freelance performing and recording schedule, I perform and write for my Celtic music duo Two Ravens, and play in a jazz-rock band called Shredbeard. When I'm not teaching, rehearsing, writing, or performing, you can catch me surfing in the cold waters of the California coast.
