I started taking lessons when I was nine years old and have studied many different styles with many great instructors from all over the world. Thirty years later this is my passion and my voice. I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. My specialization was in Classical Guitar Performance. During my course of studies, I was asked to instruct a credit course, which I did for three years. Teaching this course opened my eyes to a hidden passion, teaching. For graduate studies, I attended the University of Denver. The marvelous program at this university showed me a new world of music. *** Lesson Details *** My teaching philosophy is an organic one. Musical concepts and ideas should make sense to the student and should not be an esoteric struggle. Learning an instrument should be a natural process. Most importantly, the musical experience should be fun for everyone involved. I use materials from many different sources spanning 500 years and try to fashion lessons based upon my students' learning styles and desires. My teaching style has been called laid back. I like to enjoy my time with each student. All I ask from the student is regular practice and a solid commitment. With this philosophy in mind, the student can expect to excel in his or her own style of music. *** Specialties *** I use a synthesis of many methods from the last 3 centuries.
