Learn the viola from home from a teacher with over 30 years of experience

I take the approach that every student is unique, therefore I teach them all differently. Some are more serious, and I work on scales, etudes, and pieces....while some are more in it for a hobby or something fun to do and I work on things that they enjoy, but I always include basic technique in the lessons.

    About Scott S.

Scott playing has received critical acclaim in Fanfare, Strad, the American Record Guide, Mundo Clásico, and Musical Opinion, and his popular recital compositions have been performed by hundreds of viola players worldwide. Scott and his wife, violist Tanya Solomon, performed together as the award-winning Viola Duo for more than twenty years; many of Scott's compositions can be heard on ten albums recorded by the Viola Duo, the Wistaria String Quartet, the Penn State Viola Ensemble, Viola Around the World, and the American Viola Quartet. Scott has premiered solo works in Carnegie's Weill Hall, at international viola congresses, and on many albums, and he was the first person to record the complete set of J.S. Bach's Sonatas and Partitas on viola. He can also be heard playing solo Bach, Paganini Caprices, and some of his own compositions on various soundtracks for film and TV. Scott studied composition with Richard Lane and viola/violin with Barbara Barstow and Emanuel Vardi. At eighteen he was one of the youngest graduates of the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Scott and Tanya teach viola and violin privately in their home studio north of Burlington, Vermont. They also teach online and have reached students on five continents via Skype.
