I try to teach the way that I play and write, with curiosity and compassion.  In lessons with me, you'll receive a personally curated curriculum, designed around your own (or your parents') goals, and the kind of music you want to make.  I also implement listening and creation segments in my lessons, where I will ask you to bring music you're actively listening to, and push you to write music that you think represents you. I aim to approach learning holistically, but also in a way that will get you excited about learning how to play.

My teaching is queer-friendly, and I seek to create an environment that is comfortable for all genders and sexualities.  I am trying to unlearn white-centered teaching practices, and decolonized the way I teach and understand music. Hi, I'm Sam, I use they/them pronouns, and I've been playing piano and singing for 15+ years.  I've been apart of several different ensembles, and am currently finishing up my Bachelor of Music in Composition at the University of Idaho.  I've attended renowned conferences and institutions from places such as Peabody Conservatory, Princeton University, and Interlochen Arts Academy.
