    About Ryan M.

I am a Music Instructor with a strong focus in Classical, Acoustic, and Electric Guitar. I have been teaching lessons in music both privately and through music schools for over 10 years. Although my main concentration is in guitar through all levels, I thoroughly also enjoy teaching electric bass up to the intermediate-advanced level as well as piano and drums up to the beginner-intermediate level. I have 16 years experience as a performing musician in both guitar and electric bass, with some extensive touring experience as a guitarist. I hold both a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Georgia. I have experience as a Classical Guitar professor and Ear-Training professor at Truett-McConnell College as well as a years of experience as a guitar, bass, piano, and drums teacher at various schools in both Georgia and New York, including 106 West Music School, Guitar Center, and Williamsburg School Of Music. I have recorded albums and performed in an Athens band Brothers that has received press from Paste Magazine, as well as recorded and toured across the country through the Athens band Deep State. I have also performed classical guitar concerts at University of Georgia and Truett-McConnell College. I believe that my experience as both a performing musician and as a music educator has granted me the skills and the knowledge needed to advance current music students to greater heights of technical, interpretive, and creative musicianship. I can also provide a strong foundation to completely new students through both technical ability and through a general openness towards varying styles and approaches, using different musical vocabularies and methods of self-expression. I also thoroughly enjoy teaching Music Theory to students through simple analysis of both popular and classical compositions, with still the emphasis on performance first. I find that music has many challenging and rewarding paths. For me, that includes learning, writing, performing, and teaching. Music satisfies the analytical and creative aspects of thinking in a way that brings the two opposites together.
