    About Robyn S.

    Robyn S., DMA. Mezzo -Soprano, Dr. Steven’s multifaceted musical career began as a church soloist at the age of nine. Her talents as a singer over the years have lead to venues in the United States and abroad. A Metropolitan Opera District Finalist in 1982, she appeared in concert at Sarasota’s Van Wezel Hall, and coached with soprano Eleanor Steber. She has appeared locally with Washington National Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Baltimore Opera, and Peabody Opera Theatre, and nationally with Florida Lyric Opera, Tampa Oratorio Society, Sarasota Opera and Santa Fe Young Artists Programs, Queens Opera and with Opera Lewanee, Michigan as a Finalist in the Freiderich Schorr Vocal Competition. She has performed in solo venues at Wolf Trap, Kennedy Center, Washington National Cathedral, National Presbyterian Church, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Florida and Merkin Hall, New York City, among others. In concert and oratorio, she most recently appeared with the Capella Cantorum, in Connecticut in Antonin Dvorak‘s Stabat Mater, with the Florence Symphony in Handel’s Messiah, and with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke Concert Artists in Dvorak’s Te Deum. Internationally she has sung with Operafestival di Roma, and toured under the management of Heissler-Remy Agenturs in Germany and Austria, receiving critical acclaim for her portrayal of Nedda in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, the Countess in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro and for solo work in Verdi’s Requiem. She will be appearingas the Mother in a concert performance of Menotti’s Amahl and The Night Visitors at Germano’s Trattoria in December, a work she became closely acquainted with s through her studies with mezzo soprano, Martha King, who performed the role of the Mother in NBC’s televised broadcast of the opera in 1963. In the academic field, Dr. Stevens has served on the music faculties of the Community Colleges of Baltimore at the Catonsville Campus, Morgan State University, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where she was Coordinator of Vocal Studies. She is currently Adjunct Music Faculty at Baltimore City Community College and Music Director and organist at Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church where she maintains a private voice and piano studio. She holds degrees in voice from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland at College Park. ‎
