Originally from Chicago, I attended Chicago Musical College for 2 years before moving to Calif. and receiving my B.A. in music from Cal. State Northridge. I also have an M.A. in Education from there. I have been a band director in public schools for over 40 years. My bands have won over 50 1st place awards in music competitions. I have been playing keyboard professionally since the age of 14. I truly enjoy working with both kids and adults on a one on one basis, and provide a relaxed and friendly, yet goal-oriented experience.
*** Lesson Details ***
In each lesson, students will work on technique, music theory, and learn pieces (both from the method book and from supplementary material). I choose material for each student to use based on age, ability, and interest. I don't use a "one size fits all" curriculum. Although lessons are relaxed, I do expect students to do their part and work on the assigned materials at home. In addition,I enjoy playing along with students as soon as possible.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Room: upright piano, chair, sports memorabilia, room for parents to sit in on lesson
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to provide instrument (except piano) and music (which I would select)
*** Specialties ***
Can teach any school band instrument and keyboard
I have taught music in Pleasant Valley School District for 40 years.

It's too early to review. So far, I am satisfied.
Fantastic first lesson
So kind and patient. My son is an expert at veering off course and Rob just kept him right back in the music lane. Brought him to the basics and my son loved the lesson! Thank you Rob!
I am coming right along in my lessons, making progress every week. It's due to Rob's approach, he's very easy to sit with and very easy going. He does a recital twice a year and I was very impressed with the rapport he has with his students and his program. Although I was very nervous about performing, it was the best thing I have done.+ Read More
Very patient and encouraging.
Rob was very cool. He Made me feel comfortable as i was a little nervous about The lesson & how it would go. I would reccomend him to anyone inter esteso in Accordion lessons.
I'm very happy with Rob as my teacher. He is very knowledgeable and shares that with me as his student.
Rob is the best. Great teacher who really cares about student's progress.
We are off to a great start!!! Very encouraging.
Good instructor, goes at your pace/ability level
I've only been taking lessons with Rob for 3 weeks, but so far so good. After an 18 year hiatus from playing the flute, I decided it was time to go back to it. He's customized the lessons to go as fast as I am able to pick it up, as it is coming back to me quickly. I appreciate not getting stuck in a "set" order of lessons. He's knowledgeable, professional, a genuinely nice person and he is a very good, easy to understand instructor.
We laugh a lot when I goof up and he kindly leads me to where it will be better. We have had only 3 lessons so far and I have practiced every day, sometimes more than once per day and he says he can tell. Rob is a very experienced teacher and musician.
I learned that Rob S. - knows his material- assesses the student (me)- articulates when answering questions- patient and kind- dedicatedI am very fortunate to have Rob S. as my music teacher. Rob S. is an A+ instructor!
