I've spent most of my adult life teaching string instruments at all levels in the Northern Virginia public schools both as an orchestra director and as a private teacher. I have a music contracting business called Symphony To Go. If you would like to see my teaching studio, please consider visiting our Symphonytogo.com website. It has several interesting videos, pictures, reviews and articles that I've written with several short music videos of lessons that I've given as well. I've been a string teacher and strolling and classical professional musician since 1970. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Musical Performance on the Violin from the University of Texas at Austin. I have many former students who now perform in local and national professional orchestras throughout the US. I retired from public school teaching in 2012. In 2017 my old high school couldn't find an orchestra director to teach that year, so I was re-hired as an emergency shortage teacher. I really enjoyed coming back and teaching orchestra again in my old high school, Osbourn High School in Manassas City, Virginia! I'm currently teaching privately at my home studio as well as writing a book on how to be a better string teacher and performer. I provide private lessons in my home for violin, viola and cello students in a nurturing environment filled with many plants that are trying to take over the room and original musical paintings. I love teaching violin, viola and cello at all levels to students from the age of 7 or 8 to adult My students learn quickly how to produce a beautiful tone with vibrato and perform on their instruments with complete confidence and understanding. My students also learn what is necessary for them to move forward with consistent progress, while taking the next step to really being comfortable and competent on their instruments, and having fun doing it! My approach to teaching is that there are no limits to what one can achieve with the correct teaching techniques, whether you are a beginner or advanced player. I firmly believe that there are no limits to your talents and abilities. If you feel the same, then together we can help to create amazing transformations in your playing quickly, consistently and with confidence.

Mr. Ralph Boehm is a great teacher. He is firm in his teaching, yet very kind and generous. He has spectacular humanity. As far as technique, he finds out where his student is weak , and tries hard to turn the weakness into a strength and will work extra time to correct the flaws of his student. He is a rare individual and instructor. I consider myself very lucky to have him as my violin teacher.

Ralph is a wonderful cello instructor. Kind, caring, thoughtful and very knowledgeable. His directions really helped my daughter’s technique and sound quality. He teaches violin, viola and bass as well. Highly recommend!

My daughter has been taking lessons with Mr. Ralph Boehm for seven months. She loves her weekly lessons due to Mr. Boehm’s professionalism, passion for teaching and passion for music. He ensures his students have the basics down to the muscles in their hands before they progress. I highly recommend him for students who are eager to excel at their instrument.
