Learn to sing from a choir teacher

Hello! I graduated in 2020 with my music education degree, taught a year in a public school, and decided that private lessons are my favorite! Learning with me will be an individualized experience focused on training your voice to do what you want it to, as well as getting the most out of your natural abilities. We'll learn good practicing techniques, how to keep your voice safe and avoid strain, and how to find YOUR sound.

I am a singer and choir teacher currently focused on honing my skills and creating my sound. I have a Bachelor's of Music Education from Kansas State University with an emphasis in choral singing, and have taught a year of choral and private lessons for students grades 7-12. In two years working with TakeLessons, I have taught students of all ages and love working with teens and adults who are dedicated to learning a new skill! For students in elementary school ages, I highly recommend finding in-person lessons and group activities so they get to have fun with music and their peers. However, I am totally willing to teach solo lessons for students who have a specific goal in mind, such as audition material, solos for concerts/talent shows or holidays, or if lessons are a gift for them to have fun singing a song they know already. If you have a student under 13 that you would like lessons for, please message me in advance. Vocal students will work with me to find their own sound and strengthen their voice. My goal is to help each student understand that they can be successful with the voice they have. We will focus on technique, building good habits, and identifying the individual strengths and abilities each person has. I firmly believe everyone can sing, and with the wide variety of styles in the world, everyone should feel like they enjoy what they do and are confident in it. Another focus I have in this is learning to read sheet music. If this is something you've been wanting to learn, either for singing or playing piano, I have taught a variety of people from pre-schoolers to college students. If you want to learn classical music of any kind, knowing how to read is essential, and something I really enjoy teaching! I can also help with beginning piano, so if you are a singer wanting to get that bit of experience so you can accompany yourself but not enough to play as a classical pianist, let me know. My training in singing has included a variety of styles including contemporary Christian music, hymns, musical theater, and classical styles. I have experience singing in and education on pronouncing Latin, German, Italian, Spanish, and some French. If you have something you want to learn, whether it's your favorite style or a new one you're just trying out, I would love to help you explore that and gain your own skills.

Rachel is very friendly and personable. She's also very knowledgeable about singing and knows a lot about teaching a beginner like to me to sing and to read music. I look forward to lessons with her every week. :)
